Hi is nature throid different from armour? I have low free t4 and chronic fatigue syndrome. Private gp would prescribe armour but I'm scared of side effects. I am going to address my low vit d and things but I may fancy trying something she seems to think it's worth a go .
Naturethroid v armour: Hi is nature throid... - Thyroid UK
Naturethroid v armour
No, they're both natural desiccated thyroid tablets. But Nature Throid is currently way cheaper than Armour.
The side effects are identical to the side effects you'd get from taking synthetic levothyroxine and liothyronine. Little to be scared about if you need to take thyroid hormones - but everything to gain.
Thanks this is what I can't decide she says worth a try I just have had lots of advice on here saying I also need to sort vit d b12 follate ferritin levels more to help throid it's all so confusing to me the nhs drs won't acknowledge I should try Meds
If you get Vit D, b12, folate and ferritin up higher you might find thyroxine works much better. Why not start with this? Or are you already on Levo? It is easier to manage, certainly cheaper and the majority of patients (apparently about 70%) find it fine - especially if vitamins and minerals are good)
Your own thyroid and/or thyroxine and NDT all need good levels of vitamins and minerals for thyroid hormones to work well.
Low stomach acid can cause low vitamins too as someone explained in an answer to your previous post.
Thanks yes I understand. I just don't know what to do as I have been ill 7 years or more and can't afford to mess around longer so my dilemma is do I supplement then retest my thyroid in a few months ? And if not any better then can attempt Meds. I'm about to see a nutritionist about this too see what she says
Armour is the original NDT and has been in use for many, many years.
Nature-throid is hypoallergenic if you were sensitive to some ingredients.
Thyroid hormones aren't dangerous as our body produces them naturally when healthy. We cannot live without them whatsoever so we have to supplement with levothyroxine or NDTs.
If we take a little too much we will feel the unpleasant effects i.e. fast heart rate etc so it's best to go gradually. If we have taken too much we just miss a couple of days' doses and our system will calm down again.
I'm sure you will feel a lot better when you reach an optimum level for you.
(I am not medically qualified but was undiagnosed hypo for a long, long time - then it was the same experience as many on this forum and I am well now, thanks to Thyroiduk.org.uk)
Thanks so much. I'm scared of the "if I have too much " if u know what I mean as I'm very sensitive to my heart rate and I have a phobia of all that haha my blood pressure can be raised too I also have chronic fatigue syndrome and I read that armour can not take the fatigue away is that true ?
I cannot answer your question as I'm not medically qualified to do so, but I believe many have recovered with NDT. Regarding CFS and Fibromyalgia (many doctors believe are interconnected to thyroid hormones) and before the blood tests were introduced patients' symptoms were treated with NDT. CFS and Fibro I believe weren't named until about 10 years after blood tests (and TSH alone being the diagnostic test). fibro being mainly pain and cfs fatigue.
What ever you decide, it's best to only change one thing at a time. Add only one supplement at a time, for at least a fortnight, so you can see if you get on with it, or not.
Unless you are allergic to the fillers there are no side effects from Armour that I know to. Ihave beenon it for several years and no side effects at all.
