Can I have your opinions on this bite please? I have zero confidence in the GP who sent me away with hydrocortisone as he "didn't know" what it was. It grew to about the size of my hand.

Insect bite, help identifying please :)
I have no idea but I suggest that you draw a line all the way around the outside and if it spreads further go to A & E. Clemmie
Ooh I used to get a reaction like that from horsefly bites.
I agree with both of your replies, my husband got a bite from a horse fly which turned septic and had to get antibiotics immediatly . Do draw round outline and if expands go back to doctor ASAP. Hopefully will settle down soon
I thought horsefly bites hurt? And bled because they actually tear the skin and lick the blood rather than suck, like a mosquito? I had no pain nor any obvious puncture or bite, making it difficult to identify. Thank you for taking the time to respond I actually had this bite a few weeks ago and the pharmacist sent me immediately to the gp, giving me reason to believe it was more serious than the gp thought. I have tried to catch the pharmacist again to ask him what he thought it was but he hasn't been in the chemist since X
It started as a smaller version of this, this picture was at its largest. It turned purple from the middle out and then like a bruise, yellowed and went.
I guess it's just playing on my mind, since I already have half a dozen hashi's symptoms and worry I'd miss something serious because I'd put it down to thyroid
Don't tick bites give you a bulls eye like that one? Isn't there a chance of lyme disease...
I never really felt much more from a horsefly bites than a little pin prick but my body always reacted massively. I had 2 on my legs a few years ago that were so swollen and hard that I was finding it hard to walk and I kept getting cold shivers through my body like you do when you are sick with a fever or rally bad hayfever. Guess I must be allergic to them.
Did it look like that when the gp saw it? My sister had an infected bite and they took it really seriously. She had to keep the arm raised and take antibiotics, I think they were talking about admiting her to hospital, much to her surprise. She worked in the hospital, and had only popped down to get someone to have a look at it as she was there.
Could it be tick? Doesn't necessarily mean it would cause Lyme but sometimes part of tick is left under the skin which causes inflammation. Needs antibiotics tho as it can causes sepsis.
Keep photographing it every day. At least you will have a clear record.
If I get an insect bite they come up like that. My dr says it's an allergic reaction. I find germoline and ice help. When the bite has gone I'm always left with a bruise.
Looks like a tick bite, but I'm no expert.
HiZubakuki ,are you sure its a bite? Only I have several similar lumps n bumps some have even had akind of greasey stuff come out Yuk!! I know itsdiscustting my gp didn't have a clue either ..
sorry not much help xx
Hi Zubakuki
I have a reaction like this to mosquito bites, they take ages to go down but I use the hydrocortisone cream for 3 or 4 days which is what the pharmacist told me to do and eventually they go, they look terrifying though dont they!
My husband gets that kind of reaction from a bite, and in the past has needed antibiotics before it goes down. Go back to your GP if it doesn't subside.
I think you need a second opinion.
I had something very similar where my thigh all swelled up and it was extremely hot. GP gave me antibiotics immediately and said it was probably either a horsefly or mosquito bite. I would get a 2nd opinion you need something to take the inflamation away. Best of luck.
That really looks like a bulls eye rash reaction to a tick bite. If you go to the docs they'll give you treatment in case you've been infected with Lyme disease
Also it's important you are treated quickly. If you have been infected with Lyme disease it will make you very poorly and can take a long time to recover. The bacteria is transmitted through the ticks body fluids that pass back when your bitten, you probably won't notice a bite.
I would not be happy with this get second opinion please. Can't rule out lime disease. Where you in a line disease area. Spider bites can also have this reaction. It's the ring that concerns me . This size should warrant antibiotics see another doctor.
