I was told yesterday I could have underactive thyroid.
i have been tested a few times previously and always told my "level" was ok
yesterday my TSH was 14.5 but T4 was 3.7( GP explained that T4 is pumping out more hormone to try and assist TSH level
I struggle to lose weight ( can't really )

Have you mixed up TSH and fT4? Easily done if you are hypothyroid. If you are not sure ask the surgery for a copy of your blood test results. Starting you off on 50 mcg levothyroxine is a good move, they should review it in a month or two. It will take quite some time for you to fully recover but you should start to feel better in a couple of weeks.
I must admit I could hardly keep my eyes open at GP and was fewwzing cold and totally disoriented so I am not really sure about the numbers at all-- i will ring this afternoon to get my results
No wonder you feel so unwell, those levels are very harsh! Hope you start to feel better soon, I started on Levo about 5 weeks ago and starting to feel better now. Hang in there x
