Anyone get poor skin sensation
Could it be B12 ? What are your levels ?
345 last checked but I forced them to give me shots. Had loading dose but now one every 3 months which not happy about. According to other bloods I don't have b12 problem. Got to do b12 active test thst I ordered
The area with most problem is genitals but also have it back on occasions.
Maybe pinched nerve in yr back? Could be set of by certain actions which is why numbness comes and goes. I'd get yr gp to investigate
I remember having this sensation, I would suspect B12 and Iron. What about your iron and specifically ferritin? Also, could you supplement on your own the B12 ?
Sounds like it could be 'saddle anaesthesia' (nothing to do with riding) , go to see an osteopath to get a diagnosis because it could be nerve damage and if it is, that area is very important! !!! You don't want any further loss of sensation or even function...
I have this along the outer edges of both my big toes. My endo said it was neuropathy and I still have it even though I am now on medication.
Yes I get it here as well. Also a neuropathic Itch in other parts of my body. 😯
Cloe, what's a neuropathic itch, please?
Any itch that can't be explained away by skin conditions/infection etc. They say it is caused by nerve damage. I have had chronic Itching in certain places for about 6 years. The only thing that eases it is eumovate steroid cream which I don't like to use but have no choice. If I don't use the cream I will itch my skin away. It's a bugger but just another to add to the list!! I would like to see a hypnotherapist to see if they could help but all these treatments cost money and I'm currently having Bowen and preparing to purchase my own ndt. I did have osteopathy for a while but it didn't seem to make any difference. I just keep saying that thank god the cream works as otherwise the next step is gabopentin which I definitely don't want to take (a nerve inhibitor with massive side effects).
Well, low thyroid is responsible for a lot of itching. How do you know it's not that? Maybe you just need an increase in thyroid hormone.
Mm my levels are quite good at the moment and I have seen no difference in the itch from when they were low to when they improved so I'm thinking maybe the damage has been done 😯
Well, I got/get terrible itches in my feet, which were more like shooting pains than itches, but still made me want to scratch. However, scratching made it worse!
I do have quite bad neuropath, but I'm finding the itches are improving with lots of B12. Not quite gone yet, but don't get me up in the middle of the night, anymore (and having said that, I will probably get one tonight! lol).
Thanks. I'm. Thinkinh if maybe trying a bit of b12 to see what happens. My levels were high last year but they could have dropped.. actually I may get tested first and then see although I know out bodies can cope with quite high level.
Yes, unfortunately I know what you mean. I had progressive nerve damage for decades from Pernicious Anaemia. It was diagnosed after 15 years, but I never had loading doses, so the paraesthesia and other neuro symptoms never resolved. Another 20+ years on, and 6 years after the B12 shots were withdrawn (after a row with the GP over another matter), I'm now injecting myself. No further damage, but little recovery. The myelin sheath is destroyed in PA, and if the nerves then become scarred, that's it.
Please, please head over to the PAS forum and ask for advice on self-treatment and start immediately. You'll get plenty of help. Also, thyroidquest's suggestion above should be pursued ASAP. Sorry to sound so prescriptive, but I'm worried about you.
Yes I get that in a small area in my thigh... its an odd feeling. My GP refuses time and time again that I am B12 deficient. He has explained why...via my blood tests but I cannot really keep up with the reason why I am not... He makes it sound quite clear....I almost believe him... lol.. I have all the lacking B12 symptoms including family history!! He does not know what could be causing all this symptoms when I push him. *shrugs shoulders* I have been short of iron..that is now normal.... I am now taking self purchased B12 patches and sublingual tabs plus some folate. Its all I can do.
Yes in my legs and feet. Feels like I am walking on hot sponges some days, or rocks on others. I do have a back injury, but it started before that. Im supplementing and all my levels except ferritin are fine. Ferritin is mid range, but I cant take iron
Yes i feel this all of the time. My skin gets so dry that shaving literally feels like ive rubbed sandpaper across my face. Do you have a hard time sweating as well?
Me too, Hillwoman. Although Hashimoto's also seems to cause some degree of neuropathy (and cramp and muscular spasms in my case), my PA, like yours, was not diagnosed until some years after I developed it. My neuropathy improved slightly after I was diagnosed and started treatment; it is more variable now rather than constant.
If you have PA, Hypo101, then it can be diagnosed not only by the levels of B12 but by the size and shape of your white cells. Are you in the UK? The three-monthly injections are standard for hydroxycobalamin but if you think you aren't getting them frequently enough then you should ask for further tests - although if you aren't experiencing any other symptoms of PA then it may not be that.
Yes, I had this - started at the back of my neck and eventually spread over most of my upper body, arms, and parts of my face and legs. It was as if my surface sensitivity gradually disappeared. I had other neurological symptoms too - loss of spatial awareness, poor balance and an inability to walk if I couldn't see my feet. My B12 was at the bottom of the so-called 'normal' range. I took Jarrows 5000mcg methylcobalamin once a day and after three months all my symptoms were gone. Still taking the B12 now, but less frequently.
Hope you find a solution out of all the answers here. =)
The top of the middle of my shoulders seems lacking in sensation - a bit like you describe - to the middle of my lower back it is like a numbness to touch. It came on about a year ago. I have read it is a symptom of heart disease. I get very very itch shins and bouts of cramp In hands, feet calves, hamstrings and inner thighs. I take vits and vit d (have had deficiency in past) b12 has been OK in tests. Feel pretty good otherwise bar poor sex drive, heart pains (had those for 30 yrs and still hete!) and Crashing out in the evenings energy is good in day
Take 2.5 grains thyroid s
