My operation has been cancelled due to my thyroid results. :(

I list both my breasts at a young age when it recurred 5 years ago.

Since then I have had reconstruction an implants. But they are far from right. I have a huge dint in the middle of my chest and a whole lot more besides.

I was put on the waiting list a year ago (although I was told 3 month wait), and I started to complain and I got given a date for this Friday. I should point out I'm getting married in August, hence more important that ever to me.

I had my preop a few weeks ago. They drew blood to test TSH. I explained I was on NDT. I didn't know about the draw and it was 3 hours after my ndt dose.

I've had a call this afternoon to say they have cancelled surgery and referred me back to GP.

My results were TSH 0.01

T4 11.2

T3 12.1

(No ranges)

I was on 2 grains of ndt and had blue horizon test done (see photo) and raised to 2.5 grains (as I am on now) because t3 and t4 were low.

I feel fine. I have no over medicated symptoms at all.

I am now officially off the waiting list for my Dr to 'sort my thyroid out'. But my results on NDT are going to freak out any uneducated professional.

So.. has anyone any advice before I turn myself into knots? I'm so very upset as I thought I might finally be done for the big day.

Also... should I stop NDT altogether for a while and let t3 fall back into range?

Suppressed TSH and elevated FT3 indicates hyperthyroidism which is why your surgery has been cancelled.

Your FT3 won't have risen so much after a 1/2 grain dose increase. It's quite likely the T3 was peaking in your serum 3 hours after last dose and that's why your FT3 is elevated. TSH is still likely to be suppressed which may make your GP think you are overmedicated. Perhaps your GP can do a thyroid test and you leave 24 hours between last dose and blood draw.

Do you think I should reduce back down? I don't feel over medicated...in fact .. I still have trouble tolerating the cold!

My rising temperature is between 36.3 and 37 and my pulse is a little high around 80.

Shonny,

I think it is highly unlikely 1/2 grain would lift your FT3 much above 5.0 so I doubt you are over medicated and I wouldn't reduce dose.

Thank you Clutter. After discussions with the aneathetist (he is concered with me having a thyroid storm under general) and PS secretary.. I have just left the hospital having had another blood test. I didn't eat or take ndt. If it's lower, I can have surgery tomorrow. Do you know if it's the same as with TSH (ie lower in the morning?)

I had my blood test at 9am... whoops. But 24 hours after last dose.

Just got results .. t3 5.3. They said it's a 'miracle' ! But I'm having surgery tomorrow morning x

Well done for persisting!

It seems that you got to the root - it is good that the anaesthetist was vigilant though - useful to find out what the concern was.

I hope that your surgery goes splendidly well and that your wedding and marriage are wonderful.
