Right so blood tests last friday, and some results are in, except liver function (i cant tell that yet lol) & Vitamin D which should be later this week. Results and ranges in brackets below (baring in mind this was taken down over the phone, getting paper copies tonight)

TSH 3.55mlU/L (0.3-4.5) (test 6months ago was at 3.51)

Serum free T4 14.3 pmol/L (10.0- 22.00) (test 6 months ago was at 15)

Vitamin B12 220 (200-900)

Folate 3.75 (4.6-18.7)

Ferrtin 26 (10-320)

I wonder what my Doc will say....

Sjep13,

TSH 3.55 for someone on Levothyroxine indicates undermedicaton. The goal of Levothyroxine is to restore the patient to euthyroid status which usually means TSH 1.0 or lower with FT4 in the upper range. Read Treatment Options in thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/about_... Email louise.warvill@thyroiduk.org.uk if you would like a copy of Dr. Toft's Pulse article to show your GP.

B12 is almost bottom of the range. PA Society recommend 1,000 is optimal. Supplement 5,000mcg methylcobalamin for a couple of months and then reduce to a daily maintenance dose of 1,000mcg. Take a B Complex vitamin too.

Folate is deficient. Your GP should prescribe 5mg folic acid for a few weeks.

Ferritin is optimal 75-100. Supplement iron and take each tablet with 500mg-1,000mg vitamin C to aid absorption and minimise constipation. Take iron 4 hours away from Levothyroxine.

He'll probably tell you everything is 'normal', never mind they are 'low' in the range.

Clutter has given good advice. This is from TUK for info:-

If eating veggies was enough you wouldn't be deficient.

Tell your doctor you need an increase in levo as you're now a member of the NHS Choices Thyroiduk.org.uk forum and have taken their advice

You have to have a TSH of around 1 or lower to prevent heart disease etc..

thyroid.ca/e6a.php

Dr Toft ex President of the BTA recommends a TSH or 1 or lower and if he'd like a copy of the Pulse Online article (The GPs magazine).

Your B!2 - new recommendations say to have an optimum of 1,000 to prevent neurological problems.
