Crawley Jane

Can anyone tell me where I can buy abroad t3. I am a 75 yr old and pay £70 per month for mine which I am finding very hard, I am reluctant to stop taking it as it has changed my life for the better.

I am sorry you are having to pay so much in order to have a 'life'. It is a lot of money £70 per month when you have to stretch your budget for other everyday items.

If you are in the UK, you could make an appointment to see your MP and say that you have hypothyroidism - a fatal disease if untreated. That you cannot get better on the only replacement provided by the NHS and you have been forced to pay for your own. He can contact the NHS Choices Thyroiduk.org.uk to confirm that many do not recover on levothyroxine.

You can first approach your GP and ask him if he will prescribe for you. There's no harm in trying and if he is reluctant say you will see your MP to tell him the guidelines will not permit the GP to prescribe.

We should not be paying for life-giving thyroid hormones. If provided with the right ones we will not see the doctor so often, will not develop other more serious illnesses.

I have seen my MP and explained that because of having a quadruple bypass I can only take low doses of Levothroxine which didn't help at all except making my weight increase. I also told him how I have to pay privately to see my endocrimologist. The MP was sympathetic but t3 is not allowed to be prescribed by doctors. I have to say t3 has given me a new life and I feel really well.

Some GPs do prescribe. I hope your able to source a cheaper one. Just take a look at an earlier post. On one she is taking levothyroxine and on the other one NDT (natural dessicated thyroid hormones).

I take T3 only and I assume you are now feeling like I am - good. Levo was awful for me as well.

When I asked him, my GP fell back in horror (his joke) but he did refer me to an endocrinologist who does prescribe them for me.  Worth a try at least.
