One grain of NDT is often said to be the equivalent of 75-100 mcg of T4, so you could try taking one 60 mg (1 grain) pill a day to begin with.

I would Start with 1/2 a grain (tablet) for 5 days and then up the dose to one tablet. Stay on 1 tablet for 2 weeks and continue to increase every two weeks as needed until your symptoms are gone. I followed this approach and I am currently at 5 grains and thriving. I hope this helps!

I've just read your comment I was on 50 mcg Levo having been diagnosed with hashi's felt worse than before I started taking it. Terrible anxiety joint aches tired all day still freezing cold teary basically an emotional wreck. GP refused to increase it as TSH was within limits. A friend recommended nature Throid I've been on it for approx 2 and half months and been slowly Increasing. I've followed all the guides online and currently on 3 grains I feel great but not 100% I'm just worried because the GP had me in such a low dose of Levo I am now heading overactive!! However I have no symptom of overactive like I said earlier I still haven't got rid of all my underactive symptoms. How much Levo where u on before changing to NDT?

How is your adrenal function? Sometimes natural thyroid does not completely clear out all symptoms because the adrenals need to be addressed. I took 10 mg of pregnenolone in the morning to help my adrenal fatigue for about three weeks of the month for 4 months and I am now able to control syptoms with just the thyroid hormone replacement.

I have been taking 1 grain daily for 2 weeks. Going to increase next week as I feel quite ill. I was on 75and 100 levo alternate days.

I feel thyroid-s is not efficient like Armour , so need to increase dose every 2 weeks.Do not believe with conversion table between  levo & thyroid-s on websites .Listen to your body.

I was 75 mcg before I switch to thyroid s. I currently take 3 grains in the morning and two in the afternoon leaving 4 hours between each dose dividing the total of five grains in three doses.

I am on thyroid-s 3grains,nutri thyroid -2,NAX-1 .My neck is swollen after coming off from levo-50 & have hair problems.Do you have still have hypo symptoms on 5 grains ?

No, most of my syptoms are gone. I only have flares when I accidentally eat something that I am sensitive to like gluten or dairy. Also during periods of high stress I have to supplement my adrenals or else the thyroid medication is not enough to control all syptoms. I also find supplementation with vitamin C very effective for your thyroid and adrenals.

The way I did it was to allow the T4 to diminish by stopping Levo for two weeks before starting NDT. Then start on a low dose and build up over weeks or months till your symptoms disappear.

I started taking NDT last November and am taking it very slowly, I was on the same dose as you of Levothyroxine, after many years the endo increased it to 100mcg daily last April and it made no difference. By the time winter arrived I had many new symptoms and so decided I could not stand feeling so rotten any more. I cut my levo down to 50mcg and started on one grain, half in the morning and then mid afternoon. I increased every three or four weeks and stopped my levo. I am now on three grains a day, feeling a lot better but still some way to go. I will raise again by half a grain next week. I take my temp every morning, still not over 36C yet but moving in the right direction. I have low Vitamin D also which I take supplements for.

Good luck!

I have taken 1/2 grain for three days and no levo. I ache all over. Can I take levo and thyroid s together.

You could increase your thyroid-s rather than go back to the levo - take 1 tablet a day - 1/2 a tablet first thing in the morning and another 1/2 tablet in the afternoon. In comparison to the levo you were on you've cut your overall dose of thyroid hormone so it isn't a surprise you feel hypo.

You might want to increase to 1 and a half in about 2 weeks. Then slow down any increases after that - leave longer gaps between increases. Also, once you get up to 2 tablets a day start increasing by 1/4 tablet at a time, rather than 1/2 tablet.

I might be wrong, or just impatient but 1 grain is 38mcg T4 and 9mcg T3.

I don't see any point in becoming hypothyroid for 2 weeks to switch from Levothyroxine T4 to NDT T4. As far as I'm aware, the only reason not to switch straight over to an equivalent dose of NDT is because of possible sensitivity to the T3 in NDT. Someone on T4+T3 combination should be able to switch to the equivalent NDT dose straight away.

If you don't think 100mg of T4 was enough, or not working at all. I would do the following.

So I would reduce your to 50mg a day and try 1 grain of NDT for 2 weeks. Then drop the Levo to 25mg or and take 1 1/2 grains, after another 10 days or so, and then no levo and 2 grains for another 10 days.

It really depends on why you are changing?

Thanks

You may want to use half pill at first, see how you feel. Use twice daily if tolerated and build up. I think 2 pills are about equal to your dose now but go slow.

Hi sorry I dont want to jump into someone else's issue without advice of resolve but this whole thyroid condition confuses me, I have complete and utter brain fog. Looking at all the responses regarding how much to take im unsure myself, I take half a grain in the morning of NDT then completely forget to take another half. I feel totally drained but I also have fibromyalgia so I dont know if how im feeling is due to that condition or because I'm not taking my thyroid meds correctly. I never understand the levels even reading up on it. Im struggling with my full time job, battle to get through days and worry ill go off sick. I just wish I could get one thing sorted then be able to concentrate on the other condition. I'm battling with my weight so im obviously doing something wrong.

It's not necessary to divide your dose Vinchento. Just take the whole tablet and why not try it at bedtime unless you eat very late. Some think the body actually utilizes the hormone more while sleeping when the body does all sort of repair.

Thank you for your reply ill try that.

I did find splitting it made a big difference whilst I swapped from levothyroxine to ThyroidS and for a while after so it must vary from person to person. Mind you if you can't remember to take the second dose one big one has to be better than just getting a half of what you need in the morning

Read this and see if it clarifies things a bit re dosage and how to get to the right level for you

Sorry it is so tough at the moment Vinchento but all those things improved in my case when I took ThyroidS some of them resolved rapidly. I used to feel like I was not really me any more like a shadow and I felt completely unintegrated like a stranger to myself it was truly awful but this strange feeling resolved in just 3 days of taking 1/4 tablet of TS. Slowly I lost weight and got my physical and mental strength back after many years of illness which levothyroxine never properly rectified for me although to give it credit it did save my life at rock stoney bottom .with hypothyroidism. I really hope ThyroidS helps you in the same way it did me.

With any new thyroid med, start at 60 and work you way up - slowly - until you are optimal.

I was on c125mcg thyroxine (120/125mcg 5/2 days a week so a bit more than you) and slowly switched from one to the other gradually using this guide which you may find helpful: tpauk.com/forum/resources/f...

I eventually switched over to 1.5 ThyroidS tablets and had felt better within 3 days of taking it even with just a 1/4 tablet of TS and the rest Levothyroxine. Splitting the dose to 2 per day was important but oddly makes little difference now. I think some people just switch in one go but I was very cautious! I hope it's effect is as good for you as it has been for me!

Good luck☘
