The description of what happened to the poor woman is really vague. They don't even know if the problem is autoimmune or not, it seems to be just a guess.
There is no indication that she suffered an autoimmune disorder before surgery or any kind of thyroid problem at all. The word thyroid is not mentioned once in the article.
It seems I've had Hashimotos for the last 30 years going by my early symptoms.
I've had at least three operations in that time that I can remember, two were two hours and more. Last one in October 2015. Never had any issues with the ops and always a quick recovery.
'But that evening she suffered an autoimmune reaction to the procedure and woke up the next morning unable to move the left side of her body.'
Hmmm... that sounds a bit suspect... A cover-up explanation?
'... but the cause continues to baffle doctors.'
Nothing new there, then!
Missmina, please Don't be scared. I have Hashi's, too. Had it all my life, as far as I know. But, since the age of 4, I've had 5 operations, and they all went reasonably well - no complications.
