Did anyone taking T3 noticed reduction in their gray hair? My hair is not only thicker and growing faster (and I still remember times when I even had bald patches...) but there is definitely less gray hair. Anyone with same experience?
Less gray hair on T3: Did anyone taking T... - Thyroid UK
Less gray hair on T3
Haven't used T3 but when my Graves was really bad and before I was treated the front of my hair in a wide band from both ears up to my parting was quite silver although generally the rest of my hair looks quite dark - ideally I would like to be an elegant all over shades of silver. But alas it seems not to be.
I've been treated and have been in remission for a couple of years and while I'm still silver with a fair amount of grey throughout - I'm 67 though so it is to be expected -the lovely silver hair at the front is definitely fading.
So perhaps your levels are better now that you are taking T3 - I think that's probably why my hair has lost its hyperactive silver look. That was probably the only good thing about Graves - that and a spell at size 10
Sadly not. Greyer than ever.
I color my hair so can't tell about greys, but since I am on T3 it's growing faster and I yes it's thicker and stronger. When I was very sick and untreated it was falling constantly, I had bald patches same as you.
When I was on carb for too long I became hypo and my hair fell out all over the place. It was a nightmare and caused me a lot of grief I can tell you. I used to photograph it as it sailed down the plug hole and keep it all in little plastic bank bags. I was always intending to take it with me to consultations and produce it for the next person who said " but you're lucky you've got thick hair" I knew that when it was wet it was as thin as a pencil and that even in spite of checking my husband was constantly finding hair in his food and as he is bald and the cat was short haired there was no one blame apart from me.
Fortunately when I git sorted out my hair stopped falling out and I could see new dark hairs finger in at the front. My hair falling out just drove me round the bend.
Fruitandnutcase you made me cry while reading this. This was exactly how I felt! It was so hard for me I just can't find the words to explain how upsetting it was. Like my life was shedding with that hair, that's how I felt.
That's a great way to put it - "my life was shedding with my hair" I don't think medical people realise just how upsetting losing hair is, it might be that with thyroid problems you feel so ill anyway that it is just the final straw, it certainly was the final straw for me and I know I wasn't alone, back then there were lots of us on here who felt exactly the same.
SilicaC sorry I missed your reply. I am glad your hair is improving. When I remember my bald patches and how I spent hours trying to cover them with the rest of my hair... sad memories.
Now that I am off levo and totally t3 (one year) I have found that the hair that went prematurely thin and silver has been replaced by very dark thicker looking hairs. I am going by my hairline at the front, when I comb my hair back you can still see through it, but what was thin/fine and almost see through seems to be being replaced by dark brown and thicker hairs. Temperarily I've even had a few hairs curl above my ears, a bit ringlet like, and I've never had curls in my life! As long as it's hair, who cares!!!!
Regards
Liz
That's so sweet, I am happy for you. Hair is hair, I was so miserable because of it for years, so curls are definitely welcome!
that's great news Sally. Taking he shou wu and shilajit is also good for grey hair. However you may want to check with a herbalist before using these products.
Can you tell us more about shilajit and shou wu Kalel, they sound very interesting, (I have just done some quick googling on them,)
Do you take these yourself ?
Did they work for you ?
If you do take them which is best and cheapest to try please ?
