Lyme Disease and Hypothyroidism
I developed thyroid problems (autoimmune) after getting African Tick Bite Fever which went untreated as we did not know what it was at the time. It is similar to Lyme's disease.
Hi there I dont seem to see a connection to hypothyroidism mentioned inthe article
Neither do I However, I personally believe that Lyme and/or co-infections are responsible for the illness of more members here than most can even begin to imagine. Without treating the underlying cause(s) members will be on medication for life, simply trying to keep their symptoms under control.
Lyme can cause a wide range of auto-immune issues, undermine the endocrine system, cause neurological issues, gut issues, parasites and candida, damage the mitochondria, cause cardiac issues, joint pain and inflammation, back problems and many other symptoms.
Find the underlying cause(s) and you have a chance of improving.
Many thanks for posting this, it's what I've been saying for years my autoimmune conditions have been triggered by Lyme Disease, was well, fit, no health problems at all got Lyme and although was treated really quickly Health just crashed Hashi, PA, Asthmas, became allergic to my cats after 50+ Years?? Im a fighter but even fighting there's limits. Also as we get older we just go well i'm old what can I expect. How well should I expect to be with none working thyroid, PA, Asthma, I refuse to be ill. I run 50K a week and eat well, do every thing to keep well . Are there any other ways to fight this??
Hello Mart,
Some 20 years ago I may have had Lyme Disease (LD) and only recently started investigating it as I actually did have a tick bite but without the 'bull's eye'. On thoughts years ago I was just flat out, then I assumed I had HypoT as it was present in our family. I've been a long time fighting with T4 and T3 trying getting enough energy, like you, I fight the low energy and exercise extensively. It was not until I took T3 that I started to rebuild muscle and improve lung expansion, with lower cholesterol, spot-on weight and BMI and lowered BMP (using Magnesium and Cocoa).
Having had a tick bite I started to investigating the LD - symptoms so, so similar here (lymediseaseaction.org.uk/wp.... First LD test was Anti Borrellia C6 EIA which was negative. But this test can be a false negative. I have just recently went for the Line Blot Test at Porton Down (the doc knew nothing of it but we cop-operated). It might take about 2 weeks to get the results.

Hi Leslie thanks for the reply and the links, all good stuff! I was “lucky” in that when I got Lyme I got the target rash, this was about 15 years ago, I was on holiday in New England, which I later learned was Lyme central, I got home thinking that I had just some random insect bite but was concerned so rang my Dr, as you do, and couldn't get an appointment unless I was an emergency, well I couldn't say a bite was an emergency so I just didn't bother, but then a private GP drop in surgery had just opened near me and I thought, why not, again being lucky the GP who saw me had experience of Lyme, her father had caught it playing golf in New England, so in no time at all I was at the Tropical Disease Clinic and the Dr took one look at the target rash and said, “you have Lyme disease,” and gave me antibiotics, I hadn't had it long enough to make antibodies to it, but as he said, “you've got the rash you've got Lyme, simple as that.” then later when I started to get Lyme like symptoms it was then I was diagnosed with all the autoimmune stuff and as I say I'm sure that Lyme was the trigger, indeed I'm not sure that it's still not in here somewhere doing something horrible. Like you I try and stay in shape and eat well, although the alcohol free Jan nearly killed me lets hope they come up with a proper test and more effective treatment soon.
