Hello this is my first time on here. I was diagnosed with graves disease in sep and was put on 10mg of carbimazole. Just had a blood test and my tsh is now o.o2 (was 0.01) my free t4 is 12.1 and antibodies are 155. This is all confusing for me. Can anyone shed some light please x

I'm in the same boat as you. Diagnosed a few months ago. I'm certainly no expert, but this is what I've been told. The TSH level is controlled by your pituitary gland and dictates how much thyroid hormones your thyroid produces. It is usually low in hyperthyroidism as the pituitary gland tells your body to stop producing the thyroid hormones as you have too much anyway by reducing the TSH level. You've been taking Carbimazole for a while now and that has been helping with bringing your T4 thyroid level down - it is now 12.1 which should be in range (your blood test should specify what the normal range is). Your TSH level will start rising gradually, but it can stay suppressed for a while. So you should not be too surprised that it is still that low and below range. As for the antibodies, you don't say which antibody test you had ? Again, the antibody levels don't change significantly that quickly apparently.

I was diagnosed in October, put on 15 mg Carbimazole. My T4 level went below range after 8 weeks. My Carbimazole dose has now been reduced to 5 mg. TSH is still low at 0.02.

Hope this helps.

OK, mine was 411 at diagnosis. I don't know if it's come down since then, but my endocrinologist said it does not come down that quickly normally.

It's a steep learning curve I am new to this too but at least we are trying to educate ourselves instead of just listening to the gospel according to the GP

Hi subarubabe1

Sorry you are not feeling so good I have graves I'm in remission now it's a roller coaster journey has most people will go hypo with Meds you need to put your blood range so that people can see the bigger picture my tsh went from 0 to 8.7
