Recent blood results: T4 10.6 pmol/L (,12.0 - 22.0)

(Last test 11.0)

TSH 0.05 m U/ML (0.27-4.2)

My dr is not a fan of ndt and said I need more T4. I think he may be right, not sure. I thought the figures in brackets are the correct ranges but these are different from last times. Any help appreciated. Thank you

I am reading correct? Your last T4 was 11.0 and he didn't increase your T4? You do need more T4 - at least he's not going by your TSH alone which is o.k. but we should never take too much notice of it anyway and go more by our symptoms. The fact, too, that your T4 is below range so there's not sufficient to convert to T3 which is the active hormone required in our cells. In particular we need sufficient T3 for our body to function normally - the heart in particular needs sufficient to pump.

He should raise by 25mcg every six weeks till your levels are towards the top of the range (T4 and T3). Ask also if he will do a Free T3 when you think you're on an optimum of levothyroxine.

Sandcastle123, FT4 of patients taking NDT is generally lower than that of patients on Levothyroxine, and is sometimes below range.

You really need to know FT3 when taking NDT. You can order private tests from Blue Horizon and Genova via thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

If FT3 is within range you can increase NDT dose which will give you more T4+T3, but if FT3 is top of the range you might reduce NDT dose slightly and add in some Levothyroxine.

Yes, as Clutter says, it's normal for folk on NDT to have low-ish FT4. Hard to say without an FT3 result whether you'd benefit from more NDT (or indeed, some Levothyroxine added to your NDT - both could work).
