A little advice but great news so far!

I recently saw the amazing dr myhill and already I feel tones better. My advice to all is that b12 injections are amazing for the brain and body!

Hang in there everyone... I was so ill and extremely depressed and I'm fingers crossed getting there. Never ever ever give up!

My question I was prescribed thyroxine. Originally it made me very itchy but I left it and then tired again and I was ok. The problem now is it making me really tired. I'm on a starting does of 25mg and I've been told to put it up to 50mg in a week. Is it worth trying a larger does before asking for armour?

Thanks everyone!

Hello jen,

I would say definately as if you body is now tolerating 25mcg of Levo, it may well tolerate 50mcg which is a much better dose to see improvements.

Levo is far easier to medicate than Armour and your previous itchy reaction could have been down to any number of reasons. Now you are addressing nutrient deficiencies, everything should work better anyway.

I have deleted your duplicate post.

Now I'm feeling quite depressed and anxious. I really don't want to increase the dose after feeling so well for a few days. I think I will stop it and see if I feel ok again, if I feel good again should I ask for ndt or t3?

jen,

NDT and T3 are not readily prescribed on the National Health service (unless you're very lucky) and many members buy their own on-line but it is not easy to self medicate.

Many people do well on Levothyroxine and now you are addressing B12 deficiency thyroid meds should work better for you.

You are probably tired because are still on a starting dose of 25mcg Levo. Sometimes such a small dose can make a struggling thyroid gland lazy and you end up producing even less hormone than before you were medicating. As said above 50 mcg Levo is a much more realistic dose to see improvements.

In a previous post you say your thyroid antibodies are high but haven't given the test result or range. If you have Hashimotos you will need to lower antibodies to reduce inflammation in the body. Many find a gluten free diet helps enormously and taking thyroid hormone replacement (Levothyroxine) will help suppress further Hashi attacks and calm inflammation.

If you have been prescribed hormone replacement you should be taking it. All thyroid meds will only work with optimal nutrient & iron levels and good adrenal function.

Ask your GP to test your Vit D, folate and ferritin levels and post results

complete with ranges (numbers in brackets) for members to comment.

Depression and anxiety can be down to low thyroid hormones. Do you have recent thyroid hormone test results you can post too?

A good read is "Your Thyroid & How To Keep It Healthy" by Dr Barry Durrant Peatfield or for Hashimotos "Root Cause" by Izabella Wentz.
