Hi Gill

There are lots of different types of Magnesium, I would normally recommend Magnesium Malate. Malate is Malic acid, which is traditionally used for relaxation, helpful in heavy leg syndrome, great for sleep too.

Biocare have a very good Mag Malate.

Hope that helps

I read recently that magnesium should only be taken as cream (body lotion), or as bath/shower oil, not as tablets or pills. So I ordered expensive products (both body lotion and bath oil) which have done...absolutely nada for me. So I would not waste my money on that. I also need to find a good MG supplement, as low levels have been confirmed both by labs and hair mineral analysis.

thecat, you can also buy magnesium oil spray to apply to feet and legs and take Epsom salt baths for relaxation.

High doses of Magnesium can cause Diahorrea, depending on the person. For Transdermal use, so topical use, the best form is Magnesium Chloride, the body can absorb up to 90% of Transdermal magnesium in the chloride form. There are other types of Magnesium used topically, the other form is Mag Sulphate. These are the Epsom salts, the kidneys tend to excrete this form quickly, it can help, however the chloride is much better.

There is a lot of Research on Mag Chloride, and I'm undertaking my own research for my MSc dissertation

Magnesium citrate is a good form. Tests for magnesium deficiency are not much use, best to try supplementing and see if it helps. If you take too much and start to get loose stools back off a bit. Beware that if you are deficient you might absorb a lot first and then absorb less leading to diahrrohea, so don't be surprised if you need to reduce your intake after a couple of weeks.

Magnesium sulphate and magnesium oxide are pretty useless forms.

Try Natural Calm magnesium drink during the evening. Available from Amazon. It's excellent.
