hi ive recently started using t3 having so many problems so over weight cant seem to lose weight joint problems so down feeling im taking 50mcg of t3 and 100 t4 any advice would be great
cant lose weight : hi ive recently started using... - Thyroid UK
cant lose weight
Hi mags the dose of t3 your taking is the equivalent of 150mcg of levothyroxine, try reducing your Levo down to 50mcg, you could have trouble converting t4 to t3, therefore you won't need t4.
If I'm correct in saying... your rt3 could be high and that's why your feeling the way you are.
I quit taking Levo, because I wasn't getting on with t3 and t4 together, I'm only on t3 and I feel so much better.
thank you will give it a try my sister has also stopped using levo and only on t3 am still unsure but need to do something getting no help from docs really trying to lose weight and not losing a pound thanks again x
Ask your doctor to do some blood tests..
Tsh
Free t4
Free t3
B12
Ferretin
Folate
Vitamin d
I'm sure there are more tests, just in case I've missed some you can post a question of what bloods do I need taken, to ask my doctor.
Once you ve got the results post them on here and someone can advise you.
hope you feel better soon.
i will got the docs in afew weeks i am on iron so wondering if that could be making things worse
Forgot to add, now I'm on t3, I've started losing weight
What diet/exercise plan are you following? My friend who was v overweight &hypo had good results with Slimming World combined with walking &swimming. Good luck!
I had good results with the 5:2. However, I am optimally medicated on T3 only. If not optimally medicated I cannot lose weight. (I lost 24lbs)
I was unable to lose weight on any thyroid medication (including T3) until I was diagnosed with insulin resistance. Instead of prescription drug Metformin, I opted for supplements called Hyponidd and Diabecon, taken 30 mins before each main meal. It has worked great for me, and I have lost almost 15 kilograms since January.
Insulin is a fat-storing hormone, and bringing those levels down has really made a world of difference to me. When I had labs a month ago, my fasting glucose and insulin levels were optimal.
I had blood glucose and insulin tested on an empty stomach (not having eaten for at least 8 hours prior to testing). These hormones were measured in blood drawn at the lab. These were my results at the time (of diagnosis), August 2013:
fasting blood glucose: 101 (reference ranges: 70-105)
insulin (fasting): 23.9 (ref ranges): 7-24
On August 5, 2015, after several months on supplements:
fasting blood glucose: 72 (70-105)
insulin (fasting): 11 (7-24)
I am not saying everyone will lose weight the same way I did. However, it makes sense to me to also check blood glucose and insulin levels when officially diagnosed hypothyroid. It seems thyroid disease tends to mess up the whole endocrine system
My doctor saw no other way than to prescribe Metformin (850 mg two or three times daily). I did not like the possible side effects of Metformin, so I decided to try supplements instead. It worked better than expected for me but, then again, I was clearly insulin resistant...
Hope this helps.
