Hi

Even though your results are 'in range' they are at the low end so I do not wonder why you are feeling so bad. Your GP has not even taken into account of your clinical symptoms and I will give you the link shortly:-

On reading back on your posts to your first one, you have had a really tumultous life of ups/downs which I would wish on no-one.

Because these days doctors are apt to only take account of the TSH and prescribe other medications for each 'symptom' no wonder members cannot recover.

Vitamin B12 - 287 (150-600). Pool/L

Thyroid Function

TSH -1.30 (0.34-4.82). mU/L

T4 Free - 11.9 (10.0-20.0) pmol/L

T3 Free - 3.8 (3.5-6.5) pmol/L

Thyroperoxidase Ab - 36 (0-60). U/mL

Your B12 should be towards the upper level so buy sublingual methylcobalamin and take a daily dose to bring your B12 up nearer 600.

Your Free T4 is low s is your Free T3 (and I'm glad GP did these).

Others will respond to your Thyroperoxidase Ab of 36.

You will get more responses which will give you advice too.

You should tick your signs/symptoms list and print the 'interpretation of ' and make an appointment to see your GP for a trial of levothyroxine to bring your Free T4 and T3 upwards towards the top of the range.

Considering that T3 is the Active Hormone without which our bodies cannot function properly and adequately and the billions of receptor cells need T3 we have to have sufficient. Unfortunately doctors seem to be ignorant complelely about the thyroid gland until theirs goes awry.

An excerpt from the last link above:

Fortunately, there is a light in the darkness. Numerous studies have shown that these patients respond favorably to thyroid replacement hormone therapy. In fact, a very large study called the STAR-D trial showed that the thyroid hormone Triiodothyronine, or T3, is equally as effective as the drug lithium in treatment of resistant depression. The study also found that adding T3 to treatment protocols for depression shows an advantage over adding lithium for patients who have tried two other treatments without success.

Thanks for your reply. Sitting in the dark, it's 3:30 am here and in so much pain and just don't know what to do. Pain started in hip yesterday, went to left ovary, lower back, and now back to ovaries, at least that's what it feels like. Can't move, walking stooped over. No idea if it's related, but just adding to my grief. Just found this article that some may find useful

Basically saying tsh is a useless when diagnosing hypothyroidism and we should be using t3 and t4, gave me a little hope. Feeling defeated :(

I have not been diagnosed and am receiving no treatment for thyroid. I have or have had pretty much all the symptoms over the past 10 years, but have only been put on antidepressants. :( right now I am 238, have gained 10 pounds over last 3 weeks.

Looks like secondary or central hypothyroid. That is, problem with pituitary (or hypothalamus) not thyroid. The feedback loop is broken so your "brain" doesn't know you don't have enough T3, so the signal to produce TSH to tell your thyroid to produce to T4 to be converted to T3 doesn't get through. More or less.

Will look into this, thank you. Will be printing all of this off and hobbling back into Drs office with it today. Thank you

Ask your GP to do a Free T3 test. If it's low you need thyroid hormone replacements, usually T4 also called levothyroxine.

It's a pity that nowadays they don't have a clue what the clinical symptoms are (about 300) and a deficiency affects our whole body not just one part.

Our bodies cannot function if we don't have sufficient T3.

Free t3 and t 4 done, results above. On lower end of normal. I'm printing more info off to take to Dr this morning. I asked her for a low dose of Erfa yesterday but she won't give me anything until I have diagnoses. Laying here in pain, body aches, left ear ringing, has done so for years, when I'm not dong well it's louder, like now. Sore throat, feeling crappy :( and continuing headache, have had headache for weeks.

Sorry candytuft, I repeated myself. I did say your FT3 is too low previously.

My TPO Ab, just reading article you linked. Should mine be lower? Should TPO Ab be zero? Thank you for your help.

Just re reading this. Thank you for responding. Feeling very low. Feel sick, eyes ache, hands ache, muscle weakness, find it hard to stand. Saw Dr yesterday and pointed out why the t3 and t4 test were not done before ( bc guidelines) so she called lab and discovered how to order so these tests would actually be done. How long have I been suffering because lab wouldn't run tests? Anyways, Dr reluctant to prescribe herself, have appointment next Tuesday. I've been through worse, but still suffering. I can't tell if I'm hypo or hyper because I have symptoms of both. Thought I could swing to both. I don't know :( could anyone explain the TPO Ab?

Candy, most people have some thyroid antibodies, it's when they are >60 that they're considered positive for autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's).

You've posted FT4 and FT3 results in your original post. No need to test for TT4 and TT3, they measure all your bound thyroid levels. The unbound FT4 and FT3 tell you what is available to be used.

Supplement 5,000mcg methylcobalamin B12 for a couple of months and then reduce to 1,000mcg maintenance dose. Take a B Complex vitamin to keep the other B vits balanced.

Thank you Clutter. Will do the b12 and b complex. Do you suggest that I take something to increase my t3 and t4?
