Hi , I have underactive thyroid and am currently on 100 mg levothyroxine daily. I haven't been feeling too well of late so gad levels checked however they only tested tsh and said normal with result of 0.48 range (0.45 to 5 ) usually my result is higher up the other way can anyone help with why this might be and if this could be why I don't feel so good. Mainly very tired , irratable no energy . Severe brain fog

Thanks

Been diagnosed for 5 years now and still don't understand it.

Foggybrain, Thyroid works a bit better in the spring and summer so TSH is often lower. If you feel better with TSH higher you could reduce your dose slightly and your TSH will rise. Skipping a dose once a week would average your dose to 85.71mcg daily.

TSH is a pituitary hormone and doesn't tell you what your thyroid hormone levels are. If symptoms don't improve a couple of weeks after reducing dose I suggest you order private FT4 and FT3 blood tests from Blue Horizon or Genova via thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

You might ask GP to check ferritin, vitamin D, B12 and folate as deficient/low levels are common in hypothyroid patients and cause musculoskeletal pain, fatigue and low mood similar to hypothyroid symptoms.

I will see how I feel in a couple of weeks but maybe request the tests privately as I dint think my gp will do them.thanks for the info

I agree clutter, I've just ordered another Blue Horizon fingerprick test for myself clutter -- their Thyroid 10 was £89 using the TUK discount and does pretty much everything RFU has suggested apart from vitamin D. Good price and so much easier and far less stressful than begging a doctor to do them for me.

It could be worth moving your medication to night time just before bed. Studies show it can be better metabolised by some. My husband is on the same dose as you and wasn't feeling great so changed to night time and he feels much better. I improved a lot doing the same thing although I'm just trialing Armour at the moment. Hope it helps if you try it!

Did you try moving it? Curious to know :)

Hi , yes I did move to night but haven't noticed any improvement as yet. I think I'm going to get some blood work done private off one of the suggested sites.

Thanks
