NDT and coughing blood

Hello All,

I've recently been taking NDT, it's my 10th day and I'm on 1 grain of WP Thyroid, however for the past 5 days I've been coughing up blood in my spittle, which seems to come from my throat and not anything more sinister like stomach. I don't have a cold, but my throat feels odd, could this be the NDT? I'm a little anxious as all thoughts are racing through my mind: could I have irritated my thyroid with the NDT and made it worse? Have I been given a bad batch of NDT? etc, etc.. Could you please let me know if anyone else has had the same experience?

Thanks very much

Best regards

Prochida, I doubt it's caused by NDT although it is possible you are having an allergic reaction to one of the fillers. It's more likely to be a chest or throat infection and the coughing is causing the bleeding. See your pharmacist or GP for advice.

In the meantime, warm water with honey and lemon is very soothing on the throat and will reduce irritating tickles which make you cough.

Thanks Clutter and Reallyfedup123 for your responses - it makes me feel a little better knowing that it is unlikely to be the NDT.

Thanks and best regards

What else are you taking? Statins? Calcium? Before you blame NDT look at the side effects of other things you are taking. My aunt was so ill and had similar symptoms when she took calcium for her osteoporosis.

Hi Glynisrose,

Thanks for your reply. I was taking zinc citrate, Vit D, Vit A, Vit C, Collagen (for my joints), Tumeric, and chromium. I stopped all for 9 days except for the NDT. For the past 2 days I haven't had blood come up, which I'm thankful for. I wasn't blaming the NDT, more looking to see if there was a link. I am finally due to see my GP on Friday - I don't know if he will diagnose anything (he is a little useless!).

Thanks again for your comment though - I hope your Aunt is better now.

Best regards
