Brain gut axis
Hello Tarnnamen,
Welcome to our forum. Do you have thyroid issues that are making you feel unwell?
There are far too many supplements recommended by various doctors supporting the gut-brain axis to list.
I have been reading Datis Kharrazian's "Why Isn't My Brain Working?", who says thyroid disorders can profoundly impact brain health and function, causing fog, depression, anxiety, accelerating brain degeneration.
Leaky gut (bloated tummy) allows harmful bacteria into the bloodstream, causing inflammation which in turn can cause auto immune attacks and inflammation in the brain (foggy thinking.)
The brain communicates with the enteric nervous system in the gut, helping control food movement, digestive enzymes, and blood flow. Chemical messengers (peptides and hormones) and gut flora influence the brain and have been linked to mood disorders, Parkinsons disease and memory loss.
His protocol is to repair the gut and reduce inflammation by assessing our needs, changing our diets and taking an awful lot of supplements depending on what stage of brain-gut axis damage we are at.
There are many supplements available on the internet that claim to "do it all" but I would be wary when buying these supplements that may change the way our neurotransmitters and nervous systems work with the gut.
Unfortunately most GP's do not recognise the gut-brain connection. I recommend you read this excellent book.
