Can anyone recommend where I can get a full gut health check done?
Gut Health Check : Can anyone recommend where I... - Thyroid UK
Gut Health Check
Depends what is your symptom and problem , but this is a very good clinic , you need a doctor referral though
thefunctionalgutclinic.com . They have a clinic in London and Manchester
I was just looking for a general check up due to bloating constantly and weight gain.
Thank you
Have a look through the site , you can have Various things going on. All caused by different problems. If you are suffering with specific gut related problems then this clinic is very good ,
Does the referral-only access mean you can get it done on the NHS? Might justify the relatively high prices listed!
This clinic is private , so if you have private insurance it will be covered as its recognised by all insurance companies .
If you check, I don’t know where you are based . There are a few NHS Hospitals that will cover the tests including the SIBO test . Speak to your GP, take as much info with you as some unfortunately will not have a clue what you are talking about 🙄
I did an assessment a year or more ago and decided on one company based on that so had my 3rd test with them after previously using another company for the first 2. Probably best if I disclose the names by pm? Also best to do your own research although I'm happy to share my personal criteria via pm.
Note costs are typically £300+ per test.
Also had SIBO test with the "winner" but can't recommend for that as I believe I got false positive. Told them but they've ignored so far.
Hi, maybe have a look at this Dr's advice - the high level summary of his approach is that you generally have to do the same things in stages with respect to healing your gut, so testing is mostly a waste of time and money. That might seem a bit gung-ho but his work is sound.
I say this having spent a LOT of money on tests and 'action plans', the best money I spent was on a thyroid panel from Medichecks which showed I had Hashi's antibodies.
Cheers

Interesting but I don't understand how it works. For example, how could berberine (one of products listed) be recommended unless a test confirms an infection? Maybe I'm missing something?
Staying high level, his approach is that there are lots of crossovers in causes and symptoms so there are some common things that you can do regardless of whether it's H Pylori, SIBO, SIFO etc etc etc that are causing gut problems. If I remember rightly there are some practical tests that you can do e.g. try out one targetted supplement at a time and check for your reaction (good, bad or indifferent) - it was a while ago that I read the book so there will be more to it than that!
I was quite surprised by this approach as testing seems the obvious thing to do and take action based on the test, but given the complexity of it all things gut related, taking a high level approach might work out better and cheaper in the end.
I've never used this company myself, but they are listed on the Thyroid UK testing page :

For other companies that have a relationship with Thyroid UK see this link :

You'd have to search through each company to see what nutritional tests they do.
