Armour has arrived need help switching

Hi all, my armour has arrived and I need advice on switching from the synthetic T4. I have read lots of conflicting advice and I have some questions. Do I switch cold turkey ie just stop the Levi and start the armour? If not how should it be done? Do I take my armour in one dose or two doses? Do I need to take the armour on an empty tummy and away from vitamins? Any advice much appreciated! Jlo x

Jlo, reduce Levothyroxine by 50mcg for every half grain of NDT you add. Start NDT at half a grain and increase by half grain increments every 2 weeks until on 2 grains. Split 2 x daily when on 1 grain. Hold for 4-6 weeks and have a thyroid blood test to check levels before increasing further.

Take NDT away from food, drink, medicine, supplements etc as you did with Levothyroxine.

Thanks clutter, currently on 100/125 mcg Levi on alternate days. Do I drop to 75 or 50 the first day?

Jlo, reduce by 50mcg so your new dose is 75mcg/25mcg.

I would agree that you need to start on half a grain and build up but personally I stopped levo 2 weeks before starting NDT simply because levo is T4 alone, a storage hormone that stays in the body for up to 7 weeks. Go by how you FEEL not numbers!! You will probably find your TSH will get suppressed, THIS IS FAIRLY NORMAL and can happen whenever you take any form of thyroxine - yes even levo!! It is not necessarily a bad thing, everyone's body is different and reacts differently. DO NOT let your doctor alter your meds by blood tests alone.
