Changing from Levothyroxine to Armour

I have Armour thyroid delivered today, and have calculated that I would need to take 90mg Armour to my 125 Levo, however I am not sure how I go about changing it over. Does anyone have any advice or directions on how I going about this, or do I just stop Levo 1 day and start Armour the next?

Yes you can stop levo then start Armour next day. I started lower than calculated. Just take it slowly and don't raise too quick let your body get used to the T3 in the Armour.

Here is a link which will help.

Just to say that 1 grain of NDT is equal to the effect of 100mcg of Levo. I mistakenly thought it was 65mcg.

DO NOT just substitute your Armour for the dose of levo, start off with a small dose and build up over a couple of months. You will feel so much better. Its a fact that a doctor will tell you to swap the doses because you feel awful and they think that 'proves' that NDT doesn't work! Start off slow and build up, it works.

Thanks you all for your replies. So I shall start Mon. So it would be best to split 90 (1.5 grains) twice daily?? Do I have to chew the tablet, and how is all this going to effect my blood work? as my Endo & GP are not prepared to discuss Armour at all with me.

Jennifer, it might be better to start on 1 grain and if you tolerate it well increase by another 1/2 grain after two weeks. Your FT3 may increase because of the T3 element in NDT but it may lower your TSH and FT4 a little too. Otherwise the blood test can't determine what medication you are taking and your doctors will only know if you tell them.
