Zinc
Have a read here:

Probably doesn't tell you anything useful at all, but is at least slightly interesting.
Hello BeccaBurton,
I have recently tested deficient in zinc so have been researching it.
According to Izabella Wentz, zinc is needed in the formation of TSH and so becomes depleted in hypothyroid people who are constantly producing more TSH.
It is vital for T4 to T3 conversion and helps heal the gut.
A deficiency can show up on a liver function blood test as low alkaline phosphatase levels.
If supplementing she recommends 30 mg a day together with 2mg of copper.
Hope this helps,

Thank you yes it does. Can you but copper seperately?
And my consultant said there was nothing else I could do and that supplements really make no difference!! Sigh!
Ah, that's interesting... So, zinc depletes if you have high tsh, but zinc works to balance copper. If you don't have the right amount of copper, you can't use iron..... So this might be why hypothyroid people often show signs of anemia?
Hmmm. Just musing really... Its a complicated jigsaw puzzle.

Becca, a couple of months ago I posted on zinc deficiency, hypoththyroidism and hair loss. I''m just going to cut and paste here.
hypothyroid, zinc deficiency, hair loss
Putting the patient on thyroid replacement did not result in regrowth of hair. Or good skin. Only after zinc supplementation did hair and skin become normal.
So could my recently taking zinc mean that it will speed up my thyroid?
Go get your zinc, copper, b12, b6 checked with a holistic functional integrative Dr.
Don't self treat for zinc imbalance. You can do more harm.

I'm certainly cautious re zinc for that reason.
