It would be helpful if you could post the ranges as they differ from lab to lab and also what medication you are taking? You sound as though you have recently upped your dose so you may well need to retest soon. It appears though that you may have room for Increasing T4 further which in turn should increase your FT3. If this does not happen then you may have to look at adding a little T3 as well. It takes time to increase meds so patience is needed but welcome to the forum, you will learn a lot on here. I read that you have had your thyroid removed so ultimately you may well need a little more T3 but one step at a time.
Thank you for posting. Your FT3 is actually under range so there is a strong possibility you will ultimately need to add some T3. However I have just seen your further post about symptoms returning around time to take next dose so I've looked more carefully at your profile. If recent tests show an adrenal ptoblem then that is the priority to get sorted first as I understand if that isn't right then it needs to be done BEFORE you are able to get you other readings in the correct range. Have you been given any advice and help on that? Keep us posted each step of the way as it's sounding more complex than I first thought.
farie, there are many reasons for low T3. That's what makes the condition so difficult. Conversion happens in the liver for the most part but if you have liver problems...... Sometimes your adrenal gland needs to keep your metabolism down for some reason and your free T3 could be turning into reverse T3. If you can take the time to learn some of these things, it will help you get to your best health. There is a lot of information which is also understandable.
farie, sometimes you just have to try and figure it out yourself because they are obstinate about testing. I guess it is about saving money. You can try increasing your dose and see if you improve. If you feel worse, then you look at your ferritin level to see if it's possibly a conversion problem. The adrenals may also be lowering T3 so you may either need to take cortisol which supports adrenal function or something that stimulates the adrenals like licorice root and siberian ginseng......but not both so you have to know which.
It's disgusting that they leave you no choice but to use trial and error. If you have enough resources you can do your own testing through Blue Horizon. I think they have a package deal for most of the thyroid tests including antibody testing. A doctor like this would be awesome to find.
Farie, if those results were prior to the dose increase to 100mcg T4 + 65mg Whole Thyroid they indicate undermedication rather than lack of conversion. Your below range FT3 will be why you are so symptomatic and T3 takes longer to improve than TSH and FT4 so it may be a few weeks before you feel any improvement. Have another thyroid test 8 weeks after the dose increase.
Hi this is new dose an results have been two weeks into new dose..how ever the increase was the t4 an not t3 as tsh n t4 have lifted but t3 stil under..
Farie, it takes 6-8 weeks for a dose increase to improve levels. Two weeks really isn't time enough for anything to have improved as it takes 7/10 days just to absorb the increased dose.
