Thyroid test results....?

Hello everyone

Thank you so much for all your help and support in my last post. I've seen my Dr, who has happily agreed to get me tested for vit D, Iron, Vit B12, T3 and my antibodies (in case I have hasimotos).

Could you let me know what you think of my last test results?

Serum free thyroxine 12.0 (12 - 22)

Serum TSH 34.00 (0.3 - 4.2)

Thanks so much!

Marshmallow, you are very, very hypothyroid with a TSH of 34. I don't know how you've been managing. What does your GP say about this TSH result - I hope he doesn't say you are in the 'normal' ranges :).

Hopefully, your vitamins and minerals result will come soon and you will most probably be low in those as well.

An immediate rise in thyroid meds is due. I deliberately didn't say more levo as you have been unwell now for 13 years and it's time your doctor added some T3 to your dose. If he prescribes 10mcg of T3 to start with (equal to around 50mcg of levo) and then after a blood test 6 weeks later adds another 10mcg T3 (20mcg of T3 equal to around 80mcg of levo). I hope you will be a revitalised woman.

Thanks Shaws. I've been feeling really dreadful for the last few months! The Dr I saw actually believed my symptoms this time, rather than being gi I the usual 'everything looks normal' line. I feel pretty frustrated at how bad it's had to get before I've been taken seriously, but also relived that I have been. The Dr was really good actually, in so far as he had to put a different blood test down for me to get my T3 tested, as he admitted they aren't Allowed to test for T3 as, he said, the T3 meds haven't been proved to work etc etc, and also that they are so expensive. Will be back with the next lots of blood results soon! Thank you so much again!!

Marshmallows, they aren't good. TSH of someone on Levothyroxine should be just above or below 1.0 with FT4 in or near the top 75% of range ie near 19 but yours is at the very bottom of range. If, after increasing to 200mcg and taking it on an empty stomach and away from other medication as advised in your first post, your TSH remains high your doctor should consider malabsorption and do a coeliac blood screen to rule out gluten intolerance.

Hi Clutter. Am getting my T3 checked this time round, with some reluctance from the GP. Not sure if they will actually fund T3 meds for me if I need them, but will cross that bridge later on! I've already started taking Levi in the morning with water, an hour before food, and my other meds at bedtime. I think that's helped a bit. Thanks so much for your support and advice - fingers crossed I'll start to feel more functional soon!
