He said because I feel tired and rubbish all the time he will do blood tests for some vitamins like calcium but that's not for another week yet . Really feel like I'm hitting my head on a brick wall, have been thinking of getting a private blood test done , which I can't really afford but would do it if I thought my doc would take any notice of it, I do t even know where to start getting private done done either , Ty for your reply

|Please do ask for the Tests that rfu123 has suggested. It is very basic and most people here have them done. If you haven't asked for these particular tests then you cannot expect to improve and move forward.

B12 needs to be at the TOP of the range.....FERRITN round 80/90 - VITD also towards the TOP of the range.

Do NOT allow your GP to tell you things are normal when he means in range. Obtain copies of all your blood test results and post them here for comments. Am afraid we have to take control and monitor our own health. Others will not care as much about you as YOU :-)

Go to the main Thyroid UK website where there is masses of information about Thyroid including where to obtain Private Tests - with a discount.

Ty Marz I'm going a week tomoz for some tests don't have a clue what ones he gonna do , I was totally disgusted that he would not take any notice off, he is a really good doc too but sort of snorted when I said I'd been on this site and everything I feel seems to be down to thyroid, they reduced my Levi from 125 to 100 then down to 75 about a year ago and iv felt so much worse since then, not that I have felt normal for the last 20 odd years , just fed up of it all and can't see me ever getting this sorted

Oh, you poor thing. X

I'm no sure that I can agree he's a good doctor, though he clearly thinks he is. You've clearly had dose reductions according to your TSH reading instead of symptoms. Chances are if you were still on 125 Levo you'd feel so much better.

As others have said, try to get hold of your test results. You have every right under the data protection act (or is it Freedom of Information - my brain fog's bad today!). You can always say you need them cos you're seeing a private physio, nutritionist - or just because - you don't have to have a reason. It's your health. They may charge a small fee for printing them off but they cannot legally withhold them from you.

When you have them, post the results here and we'll interpret them for you. And as RFU said, see if you can get the other things tested too.

What are your symptoms that are getting worse? Could it be B12 deficiency? They go hand in hand so it might be worth getting checked for this :)

Unfortunately they have tested the TSH only, and none of the thyroid hormones. So they will never know if you are normal or not, without testing the free T4 and the free T3 which will give better information.

There is also no mention of iron, ferritin, folate, Vitamin D or Vitamin B12, all of which, if deficient, can stop your body from converting the T4 to T3 which is the active form of thyroid hormone. None of the other things they have checked can help with finding out how your thyroid levels are. If you cannot get your GP to do at least the T4 and T3, then you may well have to go down the route of a private blood test to find out these levels. Blue Horizon do a home fingerprick test called Thyroid Intermediate Profile which can give you these answers. Until your T3 is well into the normal range, you will not be well not matter what your TSH is.

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

If you follow the link on that page to Blue Horizon and then select 'home blood tests' you will find what you need. Also don't forget to get your discount, it may not be a lot but it's still something.
