I was told to take T4 and T3 but I am only on 10 T3 now as I am soooooo fed up of T4 not working and the side effects. My memory and brain power are better on T3 but I still feel fat, painful and lacking in energy. Am I not taking enough. What do you think. I am trying the T3 only protocol as my despite my TSH going down on T4 my T3 was still low so am obviously not converting.
Does anyone know where I can get that test to tell whether I have a gene or something that prevents me converting well as Id like to see.
I am due blood tests to see how Im doing......but to be honest I am literally fed up of my thyroid problem....I have other health probs too and I am just so demoralised.

Anuba, there is no medical history of thyroid on your Profile, which is very helpful if we are asked a question.
When first diagnosed? I assume you were on levothyroxine before? What dose?
10mcg of T3 is an extremely small amount - if it UK T3 it is equal to around 40mcg levo. Usually, if transferring from levo to T3 alone you take an amount (equal in effect to levo). Ideally you should have a blood test first. After about 4 weeks you can increase by 1/4 or 1/2 of T3. You should have a graph of temperature/pulse when starting and take note of morning (before getting out of bed) and then afternoon and evening. If your pulse or temp rises too much you have to drop down an amount, gradually till you settle down.
I hope you find it successful. It will take a little while just take note of your pulse and temp several times a day initially. I haven't taken pulse etc for months now. I don't need to.
Anuba, how much T4+T3 were you taking and how long were you on the combination? 10mcg T3 is equivalent to 30mcg T4 so you will be undermedicated if you stop taking T4 without increasing T3. If your FT3 remained low on T4+T3 you need more T3.
HI Sometimes on T3 you need less T4, see how it is.

I tried T3 only however started on 75mcg and gained weight. The only good thing was that my hair stopped falling out and my dry skin improved. I was taking 150 of T4 with 75 of T3, so maybe I should have took a massive amount of T3. I am now taking 125 T4 with 50 T3. The T3 I take is 3 x the strength of T4. Now my weight is improving and my skin is worse than ever, no doubt my hair will start falling out again.
Anuba, I just responded to your other post so I see you have made the switch but far too low to equal your T4 dose. I'm not sure what that dose was but certainly more than the 30 mcg. that Clutter mentioned. What was it? If you were taking 75 (still too low) you would need 25 mcg. of T3. The second half of this article explains the reactions taking place when hypothyroid.
