Thyroid-S

I have just ordered some Thyroid-S and would be grateful for some help in changing from Levothyroxine. At the moment and for many years I have been on 75mcg Levothyroxine and until the change from Goldshield Eltroxin I was doing well (apart from weight gain of 3 stone). Since change, and having tried all from this country (and more) I am now experiencing all old non-treated symptoms. If necessary please PM me. Not sure of posting guidelines on this.

Janet, start with 1 grain which is roughly equivalent to 75mcg-100mcg Levothyroxine. Cut the tablet into 2 doses to ease the peaks you may feel from the T3 in it.

Thank you Clutter. At the moment I am taking Aliud Levothyroxine (self-funding, but it is not really working) at 7.30 am and eating breakfast at 8.30 am. What times do you suggest I take the Thyroid-S? Also taking one tablet of Nutri- Adrenal which I take after breakfast. Various vits and mins later in the day.

j-bee, most people take NDT split in two doses, so 1/2 and hour before breakfast and NutriAdrenal and the second dose 6/8 hours later. You'll have to jiggle times to see what suits.

Thank you Clutter. So glad you are on this site.

Good advice from Clutter - remember it is not a straight swap and it works in a different way, so do not get bogged down trying to "convert" the dose.

When i switched from levo to Thyroid S, i phased in the ndt while lowering my levo dose. I fely awful for a while. It took about 4 months for me to settle on a dose, so be patient. In retrospect, i would have just ditched the levo and gone straight onto ndt only.

Congratulations on taking control of your health.

Hi Bluedaffodil, nice to hear from you as I know you have gone your own route and seem much improved to tell the tale, thankfully, to others on this site. I do realise it is not a straight swap, so will just take it by trial and error. Hopefully, with not too much error! It took me about 4 months to feel much better when I originally started on Levothyroxine, but then it was much better quality than it is today.

Your story has given me courage to go on this journey without the dubious help of NHS. Thank you for your help.

I'd be careful about going straight on to the full dose. I did that and had a bad time and felt awful. Best advice I think is to stop the Levo for 10 days or so and then start the NDT 1/4 grain and increase by 1/4 every 10 days and keep, going until you feel a little over medicated and then knock it back a bit.

I was on Eltroxin for 20 yrs and was ok-ish but feel so much better on NDT.

Good luck.

Hi Flatfred, Definitely not going on full dose straight away. I am going to take the advice of Clutter and Bluedaffodil as above. I can only leave off Levo for about 3 days before reflux kicks in really bad, but your advice about every 10 days is also very much appreciated. It is so good to hear that most people do better on NDT. I have been on Levo since 1997 and it is only the change from Goldshield Eltroxin that has brought about this awful change in symptoms, that I recognise from before I was treated at all. Thank you for your input.

I have started taking thyroid-s after suffering hypo from 25 yrs on levo - 50mcg. I have all hypo problems on levo.I did not find any improvement even on thyoid-s 60mcg after one month. It did check for 10 days only on thyroid-s , it was worse and started taking levo 50mcg along with thyroid-s 30mcg.I did not notice any improvement with thyroid-s. my case may be different as some people are feeling good.

Hi ranya, So sorry Thyroid-S did not work for you - we are all so different and need to try different medication. I am seeing the endocrinologist on 8 January so don't want to change to NDT until after then. Two days ago I started on Liquid Eltroxin, so want to see how this is first.
