Hi guys,

I get Armour on prescription but I now have to pay for it. I want to ask my Dr about changing to a similar T4/T3 med. Which would you recommend? I have heard of Nature throid and Westhroid (WP Throid?). Any others where you need prescription?

Thanks!

Bexyl, there's also Erfa but it hasn't had a very good press recently.

I've recently started taking Thyroid-S, a lot of people like it, there's no prescription and it's cheap.

Please clarify what Thyroid-S is. Thank you

I was one of the people affected by erfa, having previously done well on armour, I was given erfa on the NHS and totally crashed. I had to go back to buying my own and changed from armour to naturethroid based on cost as I was swapping meds again anyway.

I would say I have noticed no difference between the naturethroid and the armour, although the naturethroid seems far gentler on my stomach. I wont swap back now without good reason.

Lots of people are on Thyroid-S. Have a look on the threads, if you can work out how to do it!

Thyroid-S is just another brand of natural desiccated thyroid.

You buy it from eBay. Which probably sounds a lot more scary than those of us who use it know it is in practice. I've been on thyroid S for nearly 3 years now, having been on Levo and then tried T3. This suits me best. I couldn't possibly afford private scrips for 'name brand' NDT.

I'm taking WP Thyroid in the U.S. My insurance will not pay for it so I pay out of pocket but it is not too bad, $14.51 (about 9 British pounds) per month. I like it better than the Levo my insurance wants me to use.

I've been using WP thyroid too before I went T3 only, it was like champagne as opposed to homebrew compared to T4/T3 combo or T4 only!

Out of interest why are you now having to pay for your prescription for NDT if you didn't before??

Thiroyd by Greater Pharma (Thailand). Not sure if I can post the price.
