Hi, Could anyone give advise on my sons latest test results?
serum free t3 4.5 pmol/L (3.90 - 6.70)
serum free t4 17.1 pmol/L (12.0 - 22.0)
serum TSH 4.30mlU/L (0.27 - 4.20)
The TSH is high although the other values are normal.
Many thanks.

Rosypo, your son is subclinically hypothyroid. His TSH is over range and his FT3 is low in range. Ideally, FT4 and FT3 will be in the top 75% of range ie FT4 >17.5 and FT3 >6.0.
Has his GP discussed a course of Levothyroxine?
Thankyou clutter
Sorry I didn't make it clear, that he has been hypothyroid for a while, he is actually on 75 mg levothyroxine daily. I wonder if we should ask to have that raised? The lab recommends staying on the same dose, however when he was on 100 mgs thyroxine he didn't feel so well, but maybe his levels have changed since then.
Rosypo, the lab recommends? I wonder why the lab thinks it is competent to recommend treatment
Your son is undermedicated and should ask for his Levothyroxine to be increased. He should have a follow up thyroid blood test 6/8 weeks later. TSH should be just above/below 1.0 when on medication.
Does he have symptoms? I think I read somewhere that that could indicate thyroid hormone resistance (blood levels normal but not getting into the cells)? You might want to do some research on that.
Many thanks hashi and clutter,
I think you're right, he does need more medication. I will certainly look up thyroid hormone resistance and yes he does have symptoms. He can't sleep at the mo, probably his body is working overtime to produce thyroxine. He did try t3 but it gave him really bad tummy pains, it might have been that he was on too high a dose.
I am so grateful for your help. Thankyou.
