Should I stop T3 or Increase it. Advice please.

I started taking T3 only about a month ago and I am now taking 40mcg daily, I have seen no improvement and actually think the brain fog and pain in my joints is getting worse with each increase, my temp is low all the time I have swollen feet and ankles and I do feel hypo which would suggest I need an increase but what if it's actually the T3 making me feel like this. I felt the same on combo of levo and t3.

I have tried Splitting the dose and taking it all at once but nothing helps, My doctor wont let me go above 30mcg t3 says that's all he can prescribe so I've told him I will self medicate, he has now referred me to an endo but that was more than 3 weeks ago and still heard nothing and not expecting anything there either.

I know my adrenals are in bad shape so maybe I'm not be able to tolerate t3, if this is the case should I try NDT or would I be wasting my time.

My last blood test was done while taking levo 75mcg and t3 10mcg

lexilou......given that most people seem happy with a TSH nearer to 1 it looks like you are possibly under medicated.I am on the same combo as you and have joint pain.

However,I'm now trying Armour thyroid as a replacement for T4 Levo and things are improving for me but not completely so I'm still questioning the fillers in T3 Liothyronine. I will see how my blood test goes in a week or so's time and then have a chat with my Endo as I'd like to go to NDT completely.( I'm looking at sourcing it at the moment.....looks like there could be some problems and price rises.)

I don't know much about adrenal testing though. It seems to be a case of trying different options for most, until we find what works for us.Hope you get sorted.

Thanks marfit ,

I'm not on any levo just the t3 and have had the same symptoms with both, That's good that you're seeing some improvement, I think I might have to try Armour and if that doesn't work I really don't know what I will do.

Thanks gain

Hi there.....I think it's worth having a go at different things to see what suits you....I've become more comfortable with sorting myself out now, where previously I was lacking in confidence.

The support we get from this group has helped me enormously and I now feel ready to steer the course I think is right for me.

If you know that your adrenals are bad maybe you should improve them first.....perhaps someone else would advise you about that.

I think I've seen it here that it could cause problems if they aren't right before you consider your medication choices.

I do definitely feel better on NDT though.

Had to take my husband to A&E at 4.00am yesterday with another nosebleed that wouldn't stop(Walfarin side effect) so a bit of a stressful shake up to the start of the day...but was pleased not only that he was well treated ....the nurses were super even after a bad night they'd had,but also pleased with the way I handled it all myself .....not a bad time to take to the road ....not much traffic about! Fortunately was able to drive him back again after treatment....even survived to see that football match of all matches last night,so stamina is definitely improving.!

Yes,I'd give it a try x
