I greatly suspect I have hashimoto's as have suffered on and off over the last 12 years with the typical symptoms. I've also had a couple of periods of feeling less sick, these have coincided with me going gluten free, and eliminating lactose, yeast and so on (a sort of anti-candida diet). It's been a few months now being GF again, and I am thinking I should go the whole hog and cut out the lactose and yeast etc. But I am keen to look at healing my gut too - can anyone recommend a book (or website) where I can find out the latest info on that sort of thing? Is it still called leaky-gut?

Hi Lambster - welcome to the forum ! Have you had your thyroid tested - TSH FT4 FT3 and thyroid Antibodies - Anti-TPO and Anti-Tg ? If so post your results with ranges and we will be able to help. Sometimes under-medication can be a problem...
Also have your had the Famous Five tested ? B12 - VitD - Ferritin - Folate - Iron ? All need to be high in their ranges for you to feel well.
Most people feel better without gluten in their diets and having watched - The Gluten Summit - with Dr Tom O'Bryan and guests last winter there seems to be lots of reasons why most people should be gluten-free. The wheat of today is not the wheat of yester year ....
There are good books - Hashimotos The Root Cause - by Izabella Wentz. She has a website too. Also - Hope for Hashimotos - by Dr alexander Haskell - and again a website by the same name. Of course the main Thyroid UK website has lots of information. Also go to the right hand side of this page and go to Browse by category and scroll down to Hahsimotos and click. Lots of information for you to peruse...
Do hope you soon find some answers and begin to feel well - it is a long journey and can be bumpy at times - but one worth taking....
I have read isabella Wentz and Robb Wolf. I was diagnosed hypo 7 years ago and TPO raised antbodies found last december. Have been on gluten free about 4 months and lacto free about 3 months and my antibodies reduced and I do feel better, not completely there yet. Suspect i have issues with poor B12 absorption. I found both books very helpful in understanding auto immune issues and how diet affetcs it.
I had followed SCD diet for 4 months to cure candida and it helped. It healed my gut, stopped my bloating. Even after introducing gluten (just from time to time) after 4 months of this diet, my belly doesn't get bloated.
Low Fod Map diet, that's great for gut healing, also L-glutamine (tasteless powder added to water) and aloe vera all gut soothing, good oils and beneficial bacteria..... I steer well clear of gluten as it makes me feel ill....
@ Marz - I have had TSH, T4 and T3 tested recently, all I know from the Dr receptionist is that my T4 was below the normal range, but she wouldn't tell me more over the phone and I have an appt to see Dr in 10 days. My ferritin has been below range for over a year now, as has my Vit D.
I'll update when I get a copy of the results in my hand!
In the meantime, I am going to continue GF and probably cut lactose as well...
