For the last few days I have felt BAD, I threw up four times Thursday night, I hate throwing up so just let it,go and went to bed. I have not wanted to eat much lately but feel starving, the only thing I want is cold stuff, too,bad I don't lose weight. And sorry this,is gonna be a long one but it will be worth it in the end.

I had dysentry so many times I almost stayed in the shower all day, still no appetite. Next day same thing, but I took Imodium after the first two boughts because I just couldn't take it. I did the fluid replacement thing too. So I called MY GP, of COURSE he wasn't there and he did have an appointment but I was pooping myself so bad I was afraid to leave the house. So I called NSH help line, they asked me lots do questions, got the paramedic on the line, he said I needed to go to the doc shop. The walk ins, he made me an appointment even tho I really didn't wanna go, took more Imodium, hubbers came home early to take me there, I was so weak, and by this time my ears and throat started to itch so bad, like I,had a brillow pad in my throat. I have a goitre and nodules so I was only slightly concerned, I really thought I had strep throat or a gastro bug. But to be honest I have had dysentry for almost three months. YES I went to the ENDO private, didn't offer any help. A GP called me last evening to make me promise if I felt, worse to come back, BUT get this the POLY clinic will not see you of you, have sickness or diareaha. I had not liked up for two days and the Imodium helped. So guess what the Poly Clinic at Harold wood turned me away. Didn't even take my temp or anything, just said go home. They were not mean but, soooooo this morning I wake up and my throat hurt so bad, this happened to me right before I saw the ENDO private several months ago.. Felt exactly, the same. I feel so heat sensitive, well anyway, I went to a different clinic because I was coughing up my guts and was so ill I didn't think this could have anything to do with thyroid. He pal payed my neck, took my blood pressure my pulse was 101, he said it was because I was unwell.....then he said

I think you have an over active thyroid, he gave be a card that forces my GP to give me thyroid tests, I dint have to argue, hubby going with me.

I have been taking one grain of thyroid -S for months now, I have always had symptoms of over and under, allot,of my symptoms WENT totally. Maybe I do have gastro flu too, but after all these years for a doc to look at me listen to what I had to say, he pressed on my tummy, I have no ovaries so alittle tender. So on Tuesday I will have a blood test, and because it is NHS I will get another one from Blue Horizon. So after all, these years. I won't take my NDT for a few days, I have also had a bereavement so that had left me stressed. I know, the test will come back normal as always, but it does explain my sensitivity to heat and cold and I didn't mention much about thyroid, just said I had a goitre and my,throat hurting really bad concerned me just alittle.

After all this's time begging for help, this man spots it and gives me the pass for blood tests. So now, things will move allot faster, two docs telling my GP to pull his finger out.

I actually do not feel over medicated, and I usually swing from one feeling to the other, and yes I have been stressed because my father died. I am sure that does not help.

Advise? And yes I am going to grief counselling just have to get the courage and take the blood test early early in the morning? Rita x x I do self medicate, but took it really slow like the protocol says. So I will stop but I'd that itching come back I am done for. Ps I will give you my old blood results tomorrow just can't see anymore. X x

Rita, TSH slightly elevated but low FT4 and bottom of the range FT3 is underactive, not overactive as you were told. Unless your GP is clued up on thyroid I think you may still struggle to get a diagnosis as you're still in range. Have the test as early as possible in the morning when TSH is highest. thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/diagno...

Your vitamin D is deficient by your range and I'm surprised you aren't prescribed vitD3. My sister is prescribed 2 x 20,000iu weekly to correct vitD 45. If your GP won't prescribe I'd recommend 5-8,000iu vitD3 daily softgel caps taken with food, preferably food with a little fat in it.

Folate looks good. Was B12 tested?

Ritaritarita in reply toClutter

Yes clutter is was hon, tho I was taking b12 supplements when I took the test so was in range. Yes I,thought I would be under active too, but he looked and listened to my symptoms, I looked like death warmed over. So I will go tomorrow and show, them the "passport" for blood work??? I don't really understand it but now, this is TWO docs suggesting so watching is not right with my,thyroid. But like you said I prob won't get any help. I remember you said why bother, not taking my NDT, it won't matter anyway, I didn't take, any last night was too ill. Does it really take 8 weeks to clear or tell anything about your, thyroid? I on,y went to see the doc because my throat hurt so bad and I had the poops for months. Thank you for you, answer clutter, I have no family in the country and sometimes it is very difficult. This was the first doc that didn't say "well you look fine" because I didn't and was coughing my guts up and my pulse was 101. High? He said it was because I was not feeling well. Thanks again x

Rita, unless your TSH is >5 it is unlikely to change anything and you have NDT if you want to continue self-medicating. What should be investigated is the cause of persistant diarrhoea in case of nasties like salmonella and HPylori.

Ritaritarita in reply toClutter

They just seem not to care, they just say take Imodium.

Ritaritarita profile image
Ritaritarita in reply toClutter

Clutter so you, think even with the NDT that I self medicate with it won't make a difference in my TSH. Sorry don't mean to sound stupid, but I have been back and forth to docs in the last three days, exhausted and really I know I should insist on help, my husband is gonna go with me, but he is not a very verbose man, so stays quiet when I really need him. I,actually feel hopeless, sorry

Clutter in reply toRitaritarita

Rita, I thought you said you stopped taking NDT. If you're taking enough NDT it will lower your TSH. Ask why they think its okay to be taking Immodium for 3 months and ask for a referral.

Ritaritarita in reply toClutter

Clutter I had only stopped for two days because I have been so unwell. But I have been on it for about, three months and it stopped especially, the itching and nausea. I guess I am saying I don't need a hassle from my GP, are you saying that NDT wouldn't raise my TSH to over 5 so it would be silly to worry? I hate the doctors and I get very anxious about it. I had lots of surgeries when I was younger, sorta left it's mark on me. I am not thinking straight right now allot, has happened in the mast few days. So sorry if I am not understanding.

Clutter in reply toRitaritarita

It's okay, Rita. NDT lowers TSH and raises FT4 and FT3. I was saying, before I realised you were taking NDT, that despite the medics giving you a note to get your thyroid bloods tested that unless your TSH is >5 your GP is unlikely to diagnose you as hypothyroid.

Hey Clutter, went to the doc, got the first appointment of the day, so what ever card that doc gave me moved me to the head of all the line. It have a fasting blood test tomorrow. Thyroid 4 vit D other stuff. My doctor was so,nice to me I almost fell over, he was so kind. That helped so much because when you are down, well ya know, what I mean, so thank you al,the lovely ladies who, have commented and helped me. Don't know what I would do without you. Big hugs!!!!!!! If you have had dysentery many times, are you still harbouring the bacteria (or amoeba)? It's an infectious (or contagious- can't remember) disease so you could be reinfecting yourself. You need to boil all your laundry. Ginger, cumin, fenugreek and lemon in a tea is good remedy.

Thank you angel, I drink boiled water and am always washing clothes. Tomorrow I will really have a go because I am so mad at the lack of care it isn't funny. X

Dysentry is infectious so it sounds like you are reinfecting yourself

They still only gave me a prescription for Imodium, bit at lease I got 30.

I,threw away a water filter that my husband insists is healthy, but it is mean to be kept in the fridge. Americans keep everything in the fridge especially EVERYTHING I might have had a drink of that water and maybe it made me ill on top of thyroid stuff. Today it took the nurse 4 stabs to get blood out if me, in the end I had to tell her it was lower and more shallow, boom blood. Because my father died I am sure this is not helping, I am grieving but it isn't like most people. He was a (you know what) and abused me my whole life....till I could run away. All this is not helping. Today was the first day I didn't have to take Imodium. Also I also TICKED THYROID ANTIBODIES, where the GP had not. If he inquires I will say I dint know what he is talking about. He said when the bloods come back he will get the scan for my goitre and do FNA. I hag my blood test at 7:15 this morning hope, that gets the,TSH number High enough so I can bet help. Then I have to beg for the read outs. Thanks for listening x x x
