Suffering awful tinnitus anyone else with hypo experience this ?
Lila, you'll get replies later but in the meantime you might have a look at these posts healthunlocked.com/search/t...
Yes,I'm hypo and have had tinnitus for two years now. It is not an uncommon symptom. I have got used to living with it though. Some say it's associated with low vitB12. I'd love to find the optimum dose of thyroid hormone to make it go away, but haven't done so far. I do notice that if I'm under medicated, it gets worse.
I have tinnitus, I was overactive (Graves) then I became under-active for a while during treatment, now I am 'in remission' and I still have tinnitus. It got much worse a few weeks ago when my ears were blocked with wax, got them syringed and the tinnitus got slightly less noisy but it is still there. My B12 is good and I'm not on thyroxine at the moment - unfortunately I have no idea what causes it - I'd love it to go away but I think I've had it so long now there is no chance of that. Sorry to be gloomy about it.
Yes, wax build up makes it worse, so does lack of sleep and stress.
They are working on a drug for tinnitus,I read about it a year ago.
I am hypo and suffer from tinnitus. However most of my family have tended to get it and of 7 children I am the only hypo one, so for me I don't think it's related. We also have deafness running in the family- developing as we get older - 3 siblings now wearing hearing aids.
My tinnitus varies. It's always there but not always hard to live with. It is definitely worse if I drink alcohol and red wine is particularly bad. It can also kick off badly if I am stressed. It is always worse if I think about it, so I try not to.
There is a very good website about tinnitus somewhere. Try googling.
I suffer with tinnitus in the right ear only it is something I have to live with so I am told by my GP, not sure if it is anything to do with my hypothyroidism........??????
Hi
I notice you have reduced your thyroxine - I've just recently increased mine in an attempt to get my TSH lower (3.5)
I've had tinnitus for about 6 weeks. It started out of the blue - I've never had ear trouble in my life. I'm 44.
At first I thought I couldn't bare to live with this another day! It's all you could think about and it was making me tearful, scared and depressed. For a while I used an app on my phone to generate white noise etc - it was on the go constantly! I found being out and about helped to slowly take my mind off it. Now -, it's still there and still just as loud, constant etc but it hardly bothers me. At first, when I read similar stories, I didn't believe it would be possible to live with - but it is.
Let us know how you get on with reducing the thyroxine and I'll let everyone know how the increase affects me!
Good luck, don't give up hope. I've been where you are!
Btw, mine is right ear only too and a constant, high pitched ringing with a few clicks thrown in now and again! xxx
I have suffered from Tinnitus for some years now, I am hypothyroid . I have only been diagnosed five years whereas I have tinnitus for much longer. I do think it has got worse, so there may be a connection. I now where an hearing aid and have a small aid to wear at night as this is when it is at it's worst. My tinnitus is constant, some have it occasionally. It's a nuisance and can be worse when I am stressed or tired.
Yes i had it for over a year - it was awful. Also vertigo - it turned out to be undiagnosed p anaemia
The "pressure" sounds as if wax build up might be contributing to the problem. It will certainly be worth clearing that. If your surgery won't syringe them for you, Otex does a good job. (Fizzy!) Although when it says on the bottle to leave it for "a few" minutes, I leave it for half an hour. And don't use it on consecutive days or you'll have sore ears. Hope that helps a bit.
Thank you everyone for your replies . I have had my ears looked at and the nurse said I had no wax. Made appt for thyroid bloods and appt with dr. My b12 was 1000 two months ago. Tried everything and running out of ideas. Thanks again will update on any developments
Hi , I was "diagnosed as being hypo" about two years ago. I'll make this short...I'm 58, about 5yrs. post-menopausal. One doctor said I am hypothyroid, I saw a different doctor who said I was fine and didn't need to take thyroid meds.Having seen numerous medical doctors who only push pills, I lost a lot of faith in conventional medicine. I started having lots of symptoms when I (now know) was the last 6yrs. leading up to menopause. Started with anxiety and panic attacks , followed with tons of other crazy 24/7 symptoms. I refused to take any of the conventional synthetic thyroid meds ( since they seem to make most women feel even worse than before), I went to a great Chinese herbalist / acupuncturist who helped a lot of my symptoms.
Now, as for the ear and headache issue, this is a problem for those with hormonal imbalances ; and thyroid issues usually are a problem for women ( and men ) when our bodies are changing and hormone levels as well as the adrenal gland are out of balance. I had two bad bouts with my ear (only one ear ) , that caused me to have some intense vertigo , once while I was in bed and another time ( a yr. later, same time of yr. , spring ) while rolling on the floor with my grandson, this was all within the last two years. Lately I have noticed , at times ,that my ears feel like there is a lot of pressure or a " full " feeling in them . I also, like you, had headaches that seem to always last a full two days and usually they subside in about 48- 60 hours. They seemed to just stop, but lately I'm having them again ( usually around the same time of day, late afternoon, early evening). The other symptom I started to get the summer of 2013,is a total intolerance for hot/humid weather or being in a room with those conditions. If it's over about 73 degrees I feel crappy and usually I have to get out and into a cool environment or I will feel awful.
I can tell you that for me, I am 100% of the belief that all of this is due to age and hormones , and that if we educate ourselves, listen to our bodies , go with our gut so to speak, these symptoms seem to all run their course and slowly go away. I am a firm believer of natural supplements, learning what foods are healing for the issues we are having and avoiding anything that causes sickness in our bodies ( refined sugars , gluten, dairy etc. ) . You can indulge on occasion , just don't put them in your home where you are tempted .
I hope this ( or some of this ) you find helpful. It's been a long 7yrs. since my first real problems started, I've come through some real bad symptoms . Just trust your self , stay as positive as you can , PRAY and then PRAY some more , God does do some amazing stuff !
I'm adding you to my list for prayer.......Hang tough !
