Just an update for many who have been kind enough to ask . Saw my endo today . No pituitary tumour , so that's great .. SO here is whats happened ,, 26 years ago giving birth to my daughter there was a bleed or an infection in the pituitary he thinks , I have a slight shortage of fluid in the area ..My thyroid condition is coming from the pituitary NOT the thyroid gland..My pituitary is functions but not 100 percent ..
Poor adrenal function but adequate re testing & only using steroids if I have a virus T
Have had a menopause so need a bone scan ..
Took more bloods and see him in 3months .. No increase of thyroxin 100mcg daily...
Of course I am happy no lesion so he tells me he will keep an eye on me and my hormones and treat if and when neccisary ..
I asked him if there is a connection with my server depression and his reply was not his area to comment on .. so now my depression Is terrible and I don't know where to go from here..
Told him I want to stop taking mirtazapine as links to low cortisol but he said forget thinking like that ..
So I will go back to my gp and address my depression but I am not sure if I want to take ADS ever again , they just don't work for me . I am lonely and I miss my Mum no pills will help that ..
Thanks all who have offered advise I has been helpful but until you have a result from an endo or gp its all just speculation ..

I am kind of annoyed at my endo dismissing my server depression saying it was not his field , how can this be the case? I have always felt there was a connection with my hormone issuses and depression , I just don't know where to turn next Do I try yet more AD's that simply just work ..Gp doesn't listen and given the fact my endo said see you in 3 months what next for me .. This depression is affecting my life on a daily basis..
I wouldnt recommend taking any meds for depression as they all seem to have awful side effects but I took half a 50mg setraline to help with my fibro pain and it seemed to help a little with depressive thoughts a bit....I wouldnt recommend long term but maybe for a wee while....i dunno....but goodluck.
I have been on and off Ad's for 25 years .. I just don't know what to do anymore , feel like I have been left adrift to fight on my own .. thank you ..
Trouble is when you come off meds for depression etc you will get withdrawal and that can make you feel rubbish for a while. Have you seen a psychologist or anything.....some councilling can help. Also having hypo can affect your moods quite dramatically if you are not doing well with thyroid meds etc.....please read about depression and thyroid if you havent already....you are not alone.....as I said also setraline helped me a little on short and small dose. How is your iron and vit d etc.....you should ask for tests.

Youll be okay you just going through a tough bit ......a wee walk or summit sometimes makes me feel a bit better even if I dont like really want to go out the house it really does help...especially somewhere nice and natural like woods or that.....x
Hi there , no one is willing to check my vits iron etc ... I was taking mirtazapine but its linked to low cortisol and my adrenals are not great .. I am thinking of going back onto duloxetine but not sure as I have read issues with liver etc ..saw psych a year ago ..I need to stick with 1 ad's and give it a good go , I have been allowed to chop and change too much in the past ..
My mum died 2 years ago and I live alone and hate it , no pills will help with that right .x

I suffered with severe depression for many years, starting when I was a child. I tried various prescribed anti-depressants. I got side effects from most of them, and none of them did anything very much for my depression. I found my own solution when I tried 5-HTP which is available over the counter without a prescription (I'm based in the UK). I only take 50mg per day (some people take a lot more - please do your own research) and it has been a revelation. I noticed an effect on my depression within 24 - 48 hours. I get no side effects from taking it. During the summer (when I am usually, but not always, less depressed) I have come off the 5-HTP without any withdrawal effects. I also found that, after a few weeks of taking it, the 5-HTP helped to improve my ability to get to sleep. I did have to experiment a bit on the timing of my dose. I started taking it first thing in the morning and gradually moved my dose later and later in the day. Now I take it about an hour before I got to bed and that is where it has stayed for a very long time.
Please note that anti-depressants of any kind can't be mixed with each other - it can lead to a problem called Serotonin Syndrome which is very dangerous.
I like having control over my own depression medication.
I just wanted to stress that you have to be careful with anti-depressants of all kinds. Since you are already taking an anti-D, please be very sure that you know what you are doing before making any changes to your medication.
I am not taking any at the mo , was on mirtazapine but am cautious about trying some thing else .. If I take some different Ads will be sure to ask if the 5 htp can be taken at the same time ..
Am I right to remember that you don't know what your free t4 and free t3 is? There's a good chance your t3 levels are low in range. In fact, there's been quite a lot of research to show that t3 can be used to sort out depression. Don't suppose anyone's ever suggested you try some t3, either instead of or in addition to Levo?
And, and while I'm thinking about this, low Vit D also causes depression...
I read somewhere, worth looking this up, you must never take antidepressants and 5 HTP at the same time. It's really dangerous, I must look this up again. Please make sure your antidepressant is well out of your system. X
never had my vit d looked at . endo didn't seem too interested when I mentioned low cortisol with mirtazapine despite loads of evidence out there ..he said my thyroid issues are from pituitary and not thyroid , not sure of the difference .. he just dismissed my depression saying its not his field .. not fair really .. I have told them my depression is very serious xx
I wouldn't ever take them together it will be either or .. not sure ADs are for me , never have really worked so maybe I will try the htp... don't worry x
You sound as if you're living in a circle of unhappiness. Sending ((hugs)). If you can get some relief from your low mood with ADs in the short term you know you need to make some changes to your lifestyle if you intend to get out from under depression in the longer term? I so hope you can.
