The GP said I was fine. Slowly, I gained it all back. This past 9 months I have gained a ton, exhausted, anxiety, depressed, swollen eye lids, etc. I went to dr, they did antibody tests and others. Results are:thyroid peroxide aby: 407.3, free T4: 0.8, TSH: 2.83, total T3: 93. Any help and answers will be helpful. I see an endo on June 5.. I am scared...did I have graves 11 years ago and no meds. Do I have hashi now? Thanks.

Hi Rbmagolf,

Do you have your FT3 result and lab ref ranges for your other results? You've posted your total T3 which I'm not familiar with.

Low FT4 can be indicative of hypopituitarism which means that your pituitary gland isn't giving the right prompts to your thyroid to produce inactive FT4 hormone which is converted to the active hormone FT3. Treatment is the same as for hypothyroidism ie Levothyroxine hormone replacement.

Thyroid Peroxidase antibodies are positive for autoimmune disease (Hashimoto's). Hashi's can cause hyperactivity and hypothyroid symptoms and it is likely this has been progressing for some years.

It is possible, though uncommon, to have Hashimoto's and Graves. Have you been tested for Graves antibodies (TRab)?

Please don't be frightened, thyroid hormone replacement treatment for hypopituitarism, Hashimoto's and Graves will make you well again, although it may take up to a year before you are fully recovered.

Ask your GP or endo to test your ferritin, vitamin D, B12 and folate because these need to be high in range for people with pituitary/thyroid dysfunction to feel well.
