Thank you for the info . I’m desperate to lose a stone .
I don’t eat any sweets , cake or chocolate . I’m following a low potassium diet . I cannot understand why I’ve put this weight on other than hormonal changes which is so frustrating as last year my weight was fine . This is why I thought about fasting again , I didn’t have much luck last time I did it but wondered if I tried a different approach and cut out Oats as I have porridge to start my day
Hi! I’m new here, also veggie. I am underactive after RAI to treat Graves. I take T4 only. Maybe we could buddy up with IF? I have done 5:2 in last yet seemed to send my thyroid haywire and my stomach so I stopped, I’ve been reading up about IF 16:8 & think this could be something easy to implement into my lifestyle too 👍🏻 So glad to see another veggie round here!
I do 16:8. Not deliberately, I’m just not hungry in the mornings.
I was considering doing 5:2 and was reading articles from Dr Michael Mosely on what to eat (good food including good fats but low carb) however he doesn’t recommend the diet for those with thyroid problems. He didn’t say why, but I think the reason is the need for sufficient calories for conversion to T3.
I think Scrumbler’s method seems the best. I lost a few pounds before Christmas doing this.....it’s all gone to pot since! Need to get back to it.
Hmm. I sort of get what they’re getting at if someone has a sluggish thyroid for which they’re taking no treatment, but if you take thyroid hormone replacement, why would intermittent fasting make any difference, so long as when you do eat, you’re eating well balanced and nutritious meals.
Human beings are sort of designed to go long periods without eating. Sadly, I don’t seem to have got the hang of that at all and I’m currently battling huge amounts of bulge. Really rather depressed about it all but the harder I try to do something about it, the more I’m failing. 😢
This was my thinking! Why I did 5:2, I ate nutritionally well & felt great, the weight came off & my levels were fine yet after a couple months it went wrong my gut was inflamed & I knew it was the diet/lifestyle not helping.
It’s really hard to sustain weight loss for me, I’m never a healthy BMI (yes I know not everyone agrees with that measurement yet still bothers me). I’m battling excessive bulge at the mo, need to get back to walking as that seems to help
Oh no , not at all😄
I cook the slimming world way but without the meat
I dont eat after 6pm either except for an apple or other fruit at 7pm that it . Til Next morning
I've tried IF many times but have never had any luck with it. I understand all the theory behind it and have seen some great results on other people but I've had to concede that it does nothing for me. Last year I did a diet which was kind of keto-ish (I won't mention the name as you have to buy the plan online) and it was based on 3 meals per day, no snacks and clean eating. I didn't think it would work (still thinking fasting was the gold standard of dieting) but I lost 18 pounds after struggling for ages to even lose 18 ounces! (Sadly with lockdown most of the 18 pounds have found their way back onto my thighs so I need to get cracking agan!)
Don’t think I’m going to bother with IF after all . It didn’t work the first time so it won’t work again. I need to get this stone off . I am fed up with battling weight
My chocolate habit is out of control. It’s funny, because when I can stay away from it for a while it stops calling to me to eat it. It’s that perfect blend of fat and sugar, isn’t it? Marvellous stuff. Also full of magnesium...
Too true. Sadly, I can’t tolerate porridge on a daily basis. I’m gluten intolerant so have GF oats but even then, after a few days of enjoying lovely stodgy porridge, my innards protest. Think I may also be avenin intolerant (that’s the oat equivalent of gluten). Although—now quite tempted to try again. You know, just to test the theory... 😂
One of the active ingredients in chocolate is theobromine, a potent antioxidant, structurally similar to caffeine. It gives chocolate its bitter taste; darker chocolate contains much more theobromine than milk chocolate.
Theobromine has evidence of promoting wakefulness, lowering blood pressure, and improving blood flow, mood, and respiratory health.
So consuming good quality chocolate could offer longer-acting effects than caffeine, and with fewer adverse side effects! And it makes you feel good too.
