Just feel like giving up, thank you for everyone who listened to me on here with my moans and groans but have received today other tests..B12 -279 (211-911) and folate- 4.2 (2.0-11.5) T4 -13.6 ( 10.3 - 22.7) and TSH- 2.60 (0.35-5.50). Vit D 51 - (75-200), high blood pressure, high cholestrol and chronic bloating so much so Im waking every night during the night gasping for air and can onnlly sleep sitting up in bed. I am on 25mg of levo, (as I paid to see an endo and he reluctantly put me on it as I also have a goitre and a permanent red mark over my thyroid area that no one it seems can tell me what that it), the gp i saw today said Im perfectly within range and should never have been put on levo!!...so thats 5 gps now that have said that...apart from brain fog slightly better thats about it, my skin now has come up in little red dots here there and everywhere and it feels tight, im tired and achy, and feel itchy too..my basal temp i have taken past 3 days and is a constant 36.2 for past few days...I have read "Your Thyroid" book by D Durrant Peatfield..god why are there not more doctors like him??..im not sure i can go on like this, i have already had 7 weeks off work, and can not see myself going back as they will no doubt sack me, coupled with the fact i feel too poorly..dont know what else to do..please please help x thank you

Sorry you are meeting so many brick walls. Why not go and see Dr Peatfield - having read his book. It may be the best thing you ever do in taking control of your health....

Hi Marz thank you for your reply, I would love to see him but not sure how I go about it as I don't think he has any surgeries in Kent or London??..he seems to be the only Doctor to take these things seriously..I think my B12 and folate is very low, but was told its "normal"..god if I hear that word one more time!!.....I have read low B12 can cause dradful things to happen in the body and yet its not that hard to correct, do you happen to know if he still does see patients?..I gather it will be private?..if he does any idea if he has a surgery in the South East??

I think you can see him in Surrey and yes, he is private.

I have that red mark over my thyroid too. I wonder how many of us get it?

I have asked 4 gp's and one endo and no one can tell me what it is..what I do know is that it apeared around January time of this year when I became poorly..I didn't really think much of it at first but its permanently there now.. looks like a red rash in that shape of the thyroid gland..i have always had a goitre and was scanned for my thyroid a few weeks ago and even the hospital didn't know why i had it..to me its because the thyroid is working harder than it should be and is tired and inflammed but thats just my opinion and according to all the doctors I've seen so far "what do I know"??..but i'm now beginning to think the same about them..any ideas of what you think it is??..I've not really come across anyone else that has it..at least there are two of us now..

When I was really going thru it, didn't know what was wrong, I got a red mark where my thyroid is, looked like a bow tie. Wonder what that means, only happened the once, and the skin looked like satin. It was weird.

Hi reallyfedup123 I don't think I received your previous reply about the other Doctor...I changed my GP surgery today and saw another GP at a new surgery, she sat there stoney face and said "I cannot believe you have even been prescribed thyroxine as you do not have a thyroid problem..I just burst into tears before I managed to utter "it seems that most GP's find the issue of thyroid a grey area??"..which she furiously dismissed, so I have now changed GP surgery's to yet another incompetent one who seems even worse than the other lot...please can you let me have the name of the other Doctor please reallyfedup??..so much appreciated..only wish I could see the Medoc Doctor I saw at the hospital who was only working as a locum there and was brilliant..unfortunately i am out of the catchment area to see her!!!....typical...

Maybe you have another condition and are not hypothyroid your B12 is low and this can cause similar symptoms to those you are describing. Have you ever been checked for coeliac disease?

carlie62 profile image
carlie62 in reply toKaren942

Hi Karen942 it was only when I received my results yesterday re B12 and did some research and the fact it can cause leaky gut I thought the same as you.. it does often go hand in hand with hypothyroid too, so its just finding someone who will sort this out..its been months now and is so tiring going from Dr to Dr and me having to ask for various blood tests, some of these GP's quite honestly and useless and its sheer luck I feel to find a good one..Im going to now attack the route of low B12 as I have all the symptoms along with hypo..thank you for your reply..:)

Don't waste any more time with GPs and presumably they were unable to diagnose anything? As others have said, go and see Dr P who will put you on the right path.

Hi Carlie

I am sorry you are out on a limb with all of these doctors. It's no wonder so many sufferers are quite unwell. Long gone are the days when doctors medicated according to clinical symptoms and not just by the TSH only which varies throughout the day anyway. I doubt they know that.

I am not good with blood tests but your B12 is far too low. Supplement with B12 sublingual and it must be methylcobalamin and you should aim towards the higher end of the range. Excess is excreted. Vitamin D - too low, from what I've read on here it should be minimum 70 and the supplement should be D3 not D2. Your T4 is low. Your folate is too low, someone may advise how to improve this. They haven't taken your ferritin level or iron. You could be also anaemic.

These are links which you may find helpful.

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/diagno...

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

If your TSH is within range the labs wont test T3.

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

You will find the interpretation very interesting.

You have clinical symptoms and I think the worst one is problem breathing, high cholesterol and bloating.

Dr Peatfield resigned his medical licence so can no longer prescribe as he was being pursued by the GMC like Dr Skinner was because they prescribed according to symptoms. They could also tell by the the look of the patient. They also prescribed NDT.

25mcg is a very small dose and may not be helping you. It really is hopeless when you come up against brick walls and it would seem they are frightened of losing their livelihood - they know very little about the function of the thyroid gland.

If you can afford a private person email louise.warvill@thyroiduk.org who has a list of sympathetic ones.

Maybe get your vitamins/minerals sorted out as deficiencies can also cause problems. It's no wonder people are forced to go it alone.

Here here Shaws I am in total agreement with you..Im off today to buy some Vit B12 and will make a note of what you think I should take, also do you think I should stop taking my other vitamins which are milk thistle, cod liver oil, omega, and just take levo 25mg (I know I think its too low) but seeing my endo tues so he may change this (hopefully)..the vit b12 and vit d they prescribed (only after I nagged them for a prescription)!..and leave the other ones alone for a little whilte?..or is it ok to take the lot?..thank you ever so much for your advice.

Doctors are USELESS. You are very clearly hypo and deficient in several vitamins/minerals, especially vit D.

High cholesterol indicates hypo too.

Bloating could be due to lack of hydrochloric acid.

How is your ferritin?

Also your T4 is too low and TSH says nothing. It could actually be that your natural TSH is below 0 and now it's high - for you. Those ignorant doctor's don't have a clue.

Lots of hugs from one in the same boat

b12d.org/b12-signs-symptoms...

your B12 is too low, try this quiz to confirm it. Also your vit D is very low, see grassrootshealth and the vitamin d society, online. You have to work hard to get well, doctors are not here to make us well they are here to prescribe drugs for specific conditions that are deemed profitable for big pHARMA lol !!! Forgot to mention, you can buy B12 patches on amazon, they work better than tabs.

Thank you everyone for such informative responses you are all so helpful you are a lifeline when one is in this dreadful boat..what do you think about cytacon for B12?? is this ok to take as im abit worried about medication due to various allergies etc..im wondering if any of my results indicate something very wrong with me??..

kiltis profile image
kiltis in reply tocarlie62

The Cytacon dose is too low and contains Cynacobalamin, a cheap and not very good version of B12.

You need the superior Form of B12, Methylcobalamin.

Something llike this would be great to get your levels up:

nombox.co.uk/index.php?rout...

It's sublingual (under the tongue) so gets absorbed very well.

For Vitamin D I recommend Healthy Origins 10.000 iu capsule. It's reasonably priced and should bring up your vit D quickly. I take it myself and have tested to see if my levels went up and they did.

I had a problem with gasping for air I believe it's called 'air hunger' and it could be due to low ferritin, it went away for me when I supplemented
