Sounds like pretty bad B12 deficiency. You must go back to dr and ask for B12 injections. Have a look at B12d website and Pernicious Anaemia society website. Even if you are within range, B12 blood tests are useless at determining B12deficiency, and your GP should look at your symptoms

Rossilin, B12 range is usually 190-900 so although Antonia is very low in range she isn't defined as B12 deficient and NHS won't prescribe.

HI Clutter, I know most GPs keeps strictly to treating as per ranges but having been luking around on the pernicious anaemia society forum I have come across people who have been diagnosed with functional B12 deficiancy by NHS which I suppose you can compared with tissue hypothyroidism. I have been diagnosed with B12 deficiency by my private Dr and am now on hydroxocobalamin injection. Unfortunately injections is usually the only way to treat this and Antonias symptoms sounds quite bad if she also has started to have muscle weakness.

Thanks Roslin and apologies for misspelling your name earlier. I hope Antonia's GP treats her.

Antonia I'd recommend Jarrow's sublingual methylcobalamin B12 lozenges. If you can afford it take 5,000mcg daily. If not, 2-3,000mcg daily. Low B12 is very likely the reasons for the pins and needle sensations you are experiencing.

What was your vitD result? 800iu daily is very low. Muscle loss may be due to low vitD. I think most of my weight loss has been muscle mass.

I was vitD deficient <10 and prescribed 40,000iu daily x 7 days and 2,000iu daily for two months. Retested and was 116. I stopped for a month but joint pain and muscle cramps came back so I've been supplementing 10,000iu for 3 weeks and just dropped to 5,000iu daily.

Take 500mcg/1000mcg vitC with your iron to aid absorption.

I felt much better after about 6/8 weeks supplementing vitD, folate and B12. I hope it does the same for you.

Thanks i just bought some of them b12 also got some stronger vit d and iron vit c thats gentle on the stomach aswell. Also getting tested for that anemia and celiac disease doctor sent me a letter to have bloods for them after i gave him the b12 sites someone on here told me to give him . Once i get my levels up will all the symptoms go and will my memory get better as well.sorry for all the questions but i feel like crap and i forget what people have told me already.

They should make quite a difference. Low iron can make you feel really crap according to what I've read here. I don't what iron you've bought but check the iron content. Moggie mentioned that Floradix has much less iron than the ferrous sulphate that she takes.

Hi Antonia

I hope you will feel better taking oral B12 supplements but before you start I would suggest that you go back to your Dr and ask to have MMA and homocystine blood tests which are more reliable tests (unless you have reduced kidney function). If your GP still refuses ask to be referred to a haematologist or a neurologist (probably a good idea anyway to rule out anything else)

You can also self inject by ordering from Germany where hydroxocobalamin for injection is an OTC supplement. If you would like info Re this please PM me.

Also have a look at this which may be what you are describing and is associated with B12 and other vit B deficiencies.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lherm...

I had high B12 (over 1400 one year ago ) and was deficient with more and more symptoms similar to what you describe. I had kidney cancer and a nephrectomy 15 mts ago and there is research evidence that this can elevate serum cobalamin for up to 5 years afterwards but you still can have deficiency as 80% or more of the B12 in the blood can be inactive. I brought the research papers to my Gp but got nowhere which I wasn't surprised by as they are bloody useless. I have now had 2 methylcobalamin injections from a private Dr which has made a huge difference (but unfortunately only last about 5 days) and I am starting self injecting tomorrow. I bought B12 for injection initially from Germany but now have a private prescription.

I am seeing a neurologist in a couple of weeks as I think my GP might be thinking a neuro degenerative condition but I am pretty sure it is not, but it is good to rule it out.

b12d.org/

pernicious-anaemia-society....

These are very good websites and B12d has a good self check.

Ps even with B12 injections my memory is very bad and it is affecting my job. I am hoping that it will also start to improve. Fatigue is improving and I am so happy about that.

I can only agree with Roslin antonia26, you need B12 injections and appropriate tests for PA. I've given you lots of links before and Roslin has as well so I won't repeat them. Maybe just this one:

b12deficiency.info/

My B12 was 310 and I was deficient (abnormal MMA result, strongly positive parietal cell antibodies) and I need regular injections to stay well - at least weekly, sometimes more if I exercise. Sublinguals did nothing for me (or for many others), they are not the answer in my opinion.
