Feeling a bit better but....

So I have been feeling slightly better the past 3 days maybe my vitamin supplements are starting to take effect or it's just that my thyroxine has started to work properly now that I've split my dose of HRT (taking 4 hours later)

However I have had terrible insomnia the past 2 nights (literally wide awake for at least 2 hours after going to bed) and my throat is driving me mad, I feel like there is something stuck in it, I am constantly clearing my throat.

Any thoughts you lovely lot?

I feel like something in my throat too, and lots of mucus, yucky! Not had insomnia, but then I'm not on treatment yet. In fact it would be nice if I could stay awake at the moment :-(

Hi Harry

No mucus just the feeling of something stuck in my throat and like it's restricted.

I have gone from being so tired and lethargic to having lots more energy but unable to sleep! It's very strange for me

I think it just takes time to rebalance everything again. Just hang in there. :-)

When are you taking your thyroid meds and when are you taking your HRT and supplements? Could you give us some timings please.

Hi Moggie

I take my thyroxine (100mcg) as soon as I get up usually around 8am then Zumenon (HRT) (1mg) B12, vit D around 6pm then magnesium and vit C just before I go to bed around 11pm

It's really quite bizarre going from being exhausted and wanting to sleep whenever I could, to this!

Have you tried changing these timing around, for example

HRT, B12 and VitD when you get up

Magnesium and vitc near lunch

Levo just before you turn off your light.

I would say that there is something that is stimulating you and seeing as you take most of your supplements/meds quite late in the day (6pm) then the earlier you take them the better you might be.

But I was under the impression I needed to take the magnesium late (before bed) to help with sleeping?

I will give it a go though :)

That could explain the insomnia but what about my throat? Could it just be my thyroid slightly swollen? It just feel quite big but then again it always has really

Just found this regarding magnesium:

Tonight I decided to read up on whether taking magnesium in tge afternoon or at night interferes with sleep. I found something called the paradoxical effect. For some people Magnesium keeps them from sleep, or wakes them up after a couple of hours. Bingo.

Also this, written on a forum:

Beginning-----If people are using magnesium to solve fatigue, seeing as how magnesium increases the bodies ability to use proteins as energy, this could be a very likely reason for you to stay awake.

So that could be one answer but until you do a trial and error on your supplements and HRT you wont know - what you don't want is for it to go on to long and your body to get into a routine of staying awake.

I have hashi's and can, every know and again, get the throat thing, and the choking, but have never been able to pin it down to anything in particular - maybe its when my thyroid is being attacked by those pesky antibodies that the throat things is noticeable and when the attack stops then it goes away again. Yesterday I managed to choke by just swallowing!!!

Thanks Moggie

I will definitely try it.

When I first started taking the magnesium I did feel quite drowsy an hour or so after taking it so was really pleased as I thought it was definitely having the desired effect.

It's all about trial and error I guess :)

I might be totally wrong but until you try you'll never know - you'll have to tell us how you got on and if it worked and then when someone else comes on with a similar problem we will have more of an idea. You might have to juggle them around until you finds the right combo.

Good luck and sleep well

p.s. Start tonight and miss your 6pm doses and see if you sleep any better but it might take a few days to kick in.
