Biopsy results....

Hi, new to this forum so apologies if ive put this in the wrong place :)

Here's my story. I initially got rushed into hospital on Xmas eve with a suspected anyphalactic shock as my neck swelled to the point of not being able to breathe properly.... that feeling subsided within 45 mins and was able to go home. I went to my gp just after Xmas and examined my neck to see that I had a very large noticeable lump. Was referred to ent. Had an ultrasound which found a solid follicular nodule which was 6cmx4cmx3cm so very large! (No wonder I had issues breathing!) I also had an fna which came back inconclusive.

I had a partial thyroidectomy on the 14th Feb. I don't have an app to see the surgeon now until 12th march

How long generally do biopsies take to come back? The waiting is absolutely killing me. I cant think of anything else :( Am I within my rights to call the ENT dept to see if they are back or do i have to wait for mt appointment?

Also, i know the odds are 20% chance of being malignant but not sure if the odds are higher where its so large and grew very rapidly

The hospital werent exactly helpful with any of my questions!

Thanks in advance for any responses

I cannot see a problem with at least trying to get the result. Can your GP help with this? It seems such a barbaric way to treat people who are sick with worry. Perhaps try ringing your GP practice and ask how you can get results. If they cannot help then ring the endo dept. You will feel better for trying and may strike lucky with a helpful person somewhere. Good luck and fingers crossed for you!

Thanks for your replies. I have left a message for my Dr to call. I'm hoping he may be able to contact endo I'm on my behalf :) I also want to talk to him as I now have painful glands in my neck! I just want to feel normal again!!

Hi

I too was left for 3 weeks waiting for results. Its horrendous. I eventually called ENT and demanded my results as I explained I couldn't cope a day longer with the worry. She made an appointment for me to go in to see the surgeon. Turns out they had lost me in the system. They were very apologetic. I would've waited forever had I not acted. Just call them. They don't realise the worry is horrendous. I know how you feel. I couldn't eat, sleep or get on with my life. My results were good and im sure yours will be too. Just call them and put your mind at ease so you can get on with enjoying life. Take care. Ally xx

Thank you ally. I'm still waiting for the Dr to call me back! I'm going to leave it until Friday then call ent. That way its been 2 weeks and enough time for the biopsies to be back. Thanks for taking the time to reply xx
