Can coming off the contraceptive pill bring back all my hypothyroid symptoms?

I was doing well on T3 only. I decided to come off Dianette as I read a lot about estrogen dominance and also being on the pill long term can't be good for me. I came off it 3 weeks ago and the constipation, weight gain, lump in throat, depression etc.. has all come back!

Heloise, I can get my GP to check my LH levels but how do I know if my blood sugar is ok? I've borrowed my nan's diabetes machine to check my blood sugar after meals.

I don't know much about that, Neeta. I just like all the videos that this doctor put out because of all the different things that affect the thyroid. Do you ever get shakey when you haven't eaten? I think most people feel effects that might mean they have a problem. He has this video about glucose. (The meter probably would help show up a spike in glucose or a drop, I imagine.)

I never get shaky and I never fall asleep after eating (heard this is due to high blood sugar). Since becoming hypo I eat little and often. I used to have the above problems before changing my diet.

Well, that's good.

There are two videos on testosterone levels. I wonder if being on the "pill" might have altered these.

I had symptoms of low thyroid before I went on the pill. I'm sure the pill made things worse for me, especially coming off it. I'm going to get my hormones tested soon.

How much T3 are you taking? Maybe you just need to adjust your dose since progesterone does have an affect.

In the meantime, you could perhaps add B12 and D3 to you vitamin regimen. D3 is actually a prohormone and if you are like most of us, you are deficient.

I was taking 50mcg. I've started on 60 now. I thought I would have to reduce the T3 because the pill causes estrogen dominance, and then you need more thyroid medication. I take B12. My serum B12 was 1300 (200-900 range) and I'm still taking it. I know this blood test isn't as good as the active B12 test. I also take 1000iu of D3 a day.

Hi Neeta, I think 50 mcg of T3 is equivalent to about 200 of levo. If this raise to 60 doesn't resolve your issues, there must be something blocking it. Sometimes this is due to high cortisol but since the "pill" has something to do with this change perhaps Dr. Rind's interpretation can help.

Other than this, I don't know what else to consider.
