So sad such a huge loss to so many, a caring funny man who looked at the patients and not the computer screen ,I was lucky to see him 10 day's ago.thoughts are with his family at this very sad time RIP x

So so sorry to hear this news.We've lost a wonderful, courageous doctor who stood up for what he believed in and cared so much for his patients.Very sad for his family who also lost their mother,Janet Skinner, not so long ago.We will miss you Dr Skinner.

I too was very lucky to have met Doctor Skinner. Doctor Skinner was an amazing Doctor who was willing to risk his own career to help people like me and countless others. I am not exaggerating when I say he gave me my life back. My thoughts are with the family and friends he has left behind, he was an amazing man.

I echo those thoughts and am so sad to hear this news.

Some years ago, I accompanied my sister, who was very ill with ME for a consultation. On the way out, he just looked at me, asked if I was hypothyroid, what medication I was on, and then advised me to ask my GP to increase the dose to 150 mcg.

He gave me back my life too and I wasn't even his patient!

I'm so shocked and so sad. He was very courageous. An inspiration to us all, to stand up for what we believe in. His book can probably be got from Thyroid UK. It explains to GP's and patients his thinking around diagnosis and treatment. It would be worth buying them and circulating them. He had a lot more copies at his surgery. There were so many thank you letters from patients on the wall of his surgery, that was the first thing that gave me confidence in him...

in an article he wrote about a retrospective survey of his patients, he said that roughly a third had been sent to him with suspected ME, a third with low thyroid and a third with depression. He said he found that they all got better with increased T4, T3, or Armour.

Does anyone know if he had had any bad news from the GMC???

For other patients who would like to continue with an Armour prescription for their treatment, I would suggest they contact the pharmacist who was importing and suppling them with it. They may well be able to give some suggestions.
