Hey all,

After six weeks on eltroxin 50mcg my TSH went from 5.6 to 2.4 (0.5-4.2), T4 17, TPO 85, range > 50.

Now 5 months on my TSH is 3, T4 is 13 and TPO is 290. Still have symptoms but told am in normal range. What's going on?.

Could be that you are having a hashi's flare up at the moment which is why your results have altered so much.

The thing with this illness is that it isn't continuose, it has peaks and troughs, and you could be in the middle of a flare up at the moment which would alter you results quite a bit.

Go by how you feel NOT blood test results!!! You have to be firm with your doctor, its hard when you are not well but you have to, otherwise your doctor will ignore how ill you are and go by blood results alone!!!

This happened to me too, I went from 6.6 at diagnosis to 2.3 on 25mcg, then down to 1.9 but I still wasn't feeling great so doc agreed increase to 50mcg to try and get TSH below 1, but TSH went up to 3.5! I've been on 75mcg for 5 weeks now and feeling pretty good so hopefully my thyroid's chilled out for a bit! My doc didn't really know what was going on, but I suspected it was a flare up so it's good to know from Moggie that's probably what it was. If you are still having symptoms I would be firm with your doctor and say you want to try and increase dose, if it's too much you can always reduce it again.

I assume your GP hasn't increased your meds as he has pronounced you are within the 'normal' range.

If you email louise.warvil@thyroiduk.org and ask for a copy of Pulse Online article by Dr Toft, who was President of the British Thyroid Association.

You can give a copy to your GP before your next appointment and highlight question 6, where it advises about the TSH level. Many GP's don't know how best to treat thyroid gland problems.

Thanks all for the replies. Went back to GP today and when he saw antibody level he said my thyroid was not well controlled. My iron is 7 (10-32) & vitamin D is severely deficiency I'm going to a new endo in two weeks time. Hoping it will be a better experience than the last dismal experience where I was told I had no problem with my thyroid! .
