Hi there birkie i think it would help if you put in your thyroid bloid results with ranges as this gives a fuller picture on whats going on, also what meds are you on? If you are in the uk then its usually carbimazole or ptu, im still on carbimazole and have got to say that itching was not a sympton of hyper for me until i actually started the meds as most people who start carbi do have a reaction of itching and redness, mine calmed down after 2 weeks of being on meds but some people cannot take it and have to try either a anti-histamine tablet or change meds, but scratching before meds was not a problem, im sure others will respond back.😊

Hi

My surgery only did t3 which was 24.2..I belive from the lovely people on here that is very high..I was on carbimazole and scratched myself on that it calmed down when I was taken off it..put on PTU on the 31 Oct and started itching again I have felt very ill on both Meds. .doc has just took me of PTU so I'm going to see if my itching stops..😳😳

E45 sell itch relief cream. It works wonders immediately and has no steroids in it. I used to be like that on boney parts of my body hands and feet like you.

My GP prescribed Cetraben when I had exactly the same issue with hyperthyroidism. I had tried lots of other creams which didn't work. It took a few weeks before I really felt the benefits but I've used it ever since.

Could they not have given you a anti histamine or some cream, you will need some type of med as you could go into a thyroid storm, hope you can sort out something for your thyroid birkie...take care.

birkie have also had the itching but because I have always had outbreaks of hives since a child I didn't really connect it to being hyperthyroid just that my body was playing up again! I have been taking the EM Pharma once a day Loratadine as needed since April/May when my problems started. Thankfully I have only needed the antihistimine tablets occasionally over the last couple of months so I assume things have started to settle down.

Hi Deancat

I was taking a that stuff but made no diffeence I have not scratched athe all today..I have stoped the PTU so I think its the thiyroid Meds that was causing it..'
