Good Endo in York or area

Both my wife and myself have been diagnosed as Hypo. My wife 5 years ago, myself 9 months ago (2 months after retiring). Levo does not seem to work so its time, especially for my wife, to get this sorted

Hi Louise - I from York too and need to find an endo here as I am currently at my wits' end having been hypo for 10 years . Is there somewhere on the site that will tell me how to email you please? Thank you very much!

Hi Uptoapoint,

You can't send Louise an email through this support site, you need to do it using your own email facility.

Thanks very much - do you know how I can find her email address please? I must be looking in the wrong place because I can't find it!

Thanks

Ah well I guess I can blame thyroid fog for that!

Thanks so much.

A friend's sister who lives in York went to Dr Skinner in Birmingham so her local endo cannot have helped that much. In June 4 friends went to Dr S on my recommendation from Lincoln. They saw him for the second time recently and three of them are doing well on decent amounts of thyroxine. The fourth person is about to start natural thyroid placement as she has not responded to thyroxine. If you need more thyroxine he will prescribe it based on symptoms and history and not just blood results. I was diagnosed hypothyroid 13 years ago and Dr S is the one that has made the most difference.

If you're interested in the possibility of seeing private doctors, you can ask for the list via the special form on the main Thyroid UK website here:

Thanks misslily, in desperate times distance is not a problem.

Hope you do get to see him soon. I'm taking my daughter to see him next week .She has been tired for two years but we had to wait for her to turn 18 before she can consult him. I recognise her symptoms from personal experience and I'm certain Dr S will get her well. Makes me so sad that people's quality of life and opportunities are being adversely affected when it is possible to get well. Let me know how you get on.

I'll do that thank you.

Not sure how I'd be coping without thyroid uk!

If you send me a private message on this website I can recommend a very good endocrinologist in North Yorkshire.

Hi Dee1

I’m in North Yorkshire and ive just seen the Endo in Scarborough. Like most of them he specialises in Diabetes not Thyroid and was no use to me at all.. Please can you let me have the details. Many thanks Yvonne

Hello. I used to live in Scarborough and I asked to be referred to Dr Peter Hammond at Harrogate. He will prescribe T3 in certain cases. He is also very pleasant to work with.

Wishing you all the best

Thank you very much for replying. Did you see him on the NHS or privately? My GP will give me a private prescription for T3 but the cost from Boots was £315 per packet of 28 which l can’t afford. Yvonne

I saw him on the NHS. Although his secretary tried to suggest I needed to see him privately. I knew I was entitled to see him on the NHS. If you ask in the forum they can give you details of cheaper T3. You can get it for £21 for 100 tablets. There are a variety of suppliers and I would not like to recommend one as different people respond differently to different brands. But if you have a GP who will prescribe T3 you are in a good situation. Most of the suppliers do not need a prescription but if your GP is prepared to prescribe it sounds like they will work with you. I had to see Dr H as my GP not aware of T3 back then. Best wishes

Thank you very much for this info. My GP won’t percribe in on the NHS but would write me a private prescription. I will see if l can get some more information on other suppliers. Thank you again. Yvonne

Hi stephen

Dr Peter Hammond. He works from duchy hospital in Harrogate. Even wrote a letter to my GP recommending she put me on NDT so he is open minded and very well respected by everyone.
