Trapped nerve in neck: hi what can I use for... - Thyroid UK
Trapped nerve in neck
I always use nurofen when desperate. Hate taking pain killers but sometimes the only way. Sorry no other brilliant ideas!
Hi Different analgesics work differently, so different ones needed for different types of pain. Ask the pharmacist so that you take the best thing. If this does not work ,then ask the GP for a something stronger on a script. Also, if any renal problems do not take Nurofen. Any major medical problems tell the pharmacist as some preclude using certain meds.
Best wishes,
Jackie
Can you find access to an inversion table? Using one a few times may well release the trapped nerve.
Hi.
I have a trapped nerve every now and again, stress and sitting hunched over a desk does not help
I suffer dreadfully from this. I use a combination of paracetamol and soluble aspirin (1000mg=3 tablets) which sort of takes the edge off. Nothing available OTC or on prescription these days rivals aspirin for me, but everyone is different.
I can assure you, there are a LOT of drugs on prescription that are far more effective than Aspirin!
find a really good massage therapist - not one from a beauty salon, then start yoga...... check your posture and how you sleep, the Tempur pillows are fantastic...
You need a diagnosis as a priority, GP can prescribe any number of pain killers, but that's only hiding the problem, so you need to know what it is and if the cause can be treated.
Chiropractic treatment is my particular first choice if it turns out to be nothing specific, (and possibly even if it is!) but not a free option unfortunately.
Lie in a warm bath. It was the only thing that helped when I gave myself Wry Neck.
Thank you al ive tried warm bath the ic and heat paracetamol I cannot take asprin or naids based drugs im sensitive to them. I need to see doc this week re levo so will ask them thank you
Have your Vitamn d & B12 levels checked .I had severe neck pain turned out to be thyroiditis from overmedicated with generic brand.
have you tried a chiropractor I visit on once a month for my dodgy back and I find it helps a lot
If you are anywhere near Windsor you could try Body Realignment. This is a gentle release technique and good for problems such as this.
Chiropractic treatment is good but I would ask why a problem keeps coming back after correction. I was taught that it is not good to keep on moving a bone back into place on a long-term basis. (I do massage, aromatherapy and Body Realignment.)
U cd try Gabapentin for nerve pain or if nr London, the London Pain Clinic.
I have just been prescribed Naproxen for a trapped nerve in my neck - it is helping. GP said if it did not settle down in 2-3 weeks she would refer me for physio but in the mean time told me to do some exercises daily.
try an osteopath
