Estrogen and Progesterone

Has anyone has these 2 tested? I had never given them any thought as I am post-menopausal but out of interest looked up the symptoms of an imbalance and couldn't believe how long the list was.

Any thoughts or experiences would be useful.

I have been diagnosed with excess oestrogen (oestrogen dominance ) through a biopsy of the endometrium. I had postmenopausal bleeds. At no time have I had blood tests. When I asked for it I was told that they were not accurate anyway. I have read that saliva testing is better but it is not often done in NHS. But you can do it privately.

Ps thyroid hormones dont work properly if you have too much oestrogen

Hi Roslin, thanks for that. Yes I had read that an imbalance can affect thyroid meds, this was why I was doing research. It doesn't seem to be a subject covered very much on this site, unless I am not looking in the right place! How did you rebalance your oestrogen dominance?

I havent yet, I am waiting to have a hysteroscopy (this thursday)to make sure that there is no atypical cells even though I have been told that there is no malignancy. I have asked for natural progesterone (progesterone is what you need to treat excess oestrogen) and I think I am going to have another fight on my hands. The consultant wanted to give me a marena coil but I have found out that progestins (synthetic progesterones) have an oesterogenic effect on breast tissue. I am now taking Armour and getting better and I do not want to put another synthetic hormone i my body. I have started taking Progest E 30, 10 drops, and progesterone cream when I can remember, which gives me about 30 mg progesterone a day. ( your ovaries should produce 20mg a day but stops at menopause). It is probably not enough to start with but I decided not to self treat untill after the hysteroscopy if I have to. The best natural progesterone is the supposatories that you can use vaginally or analy. It mimics the way the body releases progesterone. As you can see I have looked into this as much as I can, you can ask me and I will help if I can. If you think you have excess oestrogen (GPs dont seem to like "oestrogen dominance") you should ask to have a endometrial ultra sound to check thickness. And you could order some natural progesterone. I use the biovea cream. I have not done the private saliva testing as it is so expensive and I dont really know what to do with the results as my GP doesnt accept them.

Dear Roslin,

I've just read your story and I'm so sorry that you are feeling so poorly. It is just a thought but I have been suffering with a lot of hot flushes and and the Edo decided to put me back on HRT! well that did not work! so like you I searched for help. I found Natural Progesterone called Serenity from a firm called "Wellsrings" I have now been using it for one month(not long I know) but I'm not having so many H/flushes so I hope it is slow and steady improvement! we will see.

But I just thought you might like to know.

Best wishes wakeham.
