G.P. started me on 25mcg of Thyroxine for six weeks and I am now on 50mcg, He said that I am profoundly Hypothyroid although he is reluctant to tell me what my results are. I know he has tested me for Vitamin B12 levels and said they are normal . I experienced the Menopause at the same time as becoming Hypotyroid so feel that may be that has made my symptoms more acute. I continue to feel constantly tiried and ache all over. I seem to bruise very easily and have swelling of my face and legs and feet . I have gained weight. I have started vitamins but does any one have any other advice that may be use ful.

It can take a year or more to find and get to your optimum levels. It also tends to get worse before it gets better. Patience and perseverance are called for.
Your doctor isnt allowed to refuse you copies of your blood results, unless he believes its not in your best interest to know and will result in you doing something with could be considered detrimental to your health. I'd ask the receptionist for copies of your recent ones. If they say no then ask the practice manager. If again its refused then you may have to apply for copies through the right protocols, ask for details of access to medical records at the surgery if it comes to it, as it differs slightly from one health board (or what ever they are now) to the next). But usually a polite request works.
Also, never accept "normal" as a result. There is no such thing as "normal" everybody needs different amounts of stuffs. Everybody is different, although again, its not always easy to get that across to a GP.
...many GP's are happy to accept a result that is in range. With B12 if your are just in range then that is far too LOW for someone with a thyroid problem. Needs to be near the top. Hopefully you will soon feel better. Will look out for your post when you have obtained your results with ranges - which will give us all a better indication of where we may be able to help. Check out the main Thyroid UK website where you will learn a great deal about everything - so helpful.....
Its very normal to start gradually with levothyroxine. Otherwise you may feel worse than you already do. Give it a chance your doctor will probably gradually increase the dose slowly. It does take quite a while to feel like one is getting somewhere Dont let the numbers worry you too much. You will find it easier to rely on how you feel
